Since the monumental events of Avengers: Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has found itself confronted with the pressing challenge of assembling a new Avengers team. However, several hurdles stand in the way of forming this new cohort of heroes. In the early phases of the MCU, individual heroes were introduced gradually. Iron Man emerged first, playing a crucial role as a consultant to SHIELD as the Avengers Initiative began to take shape.
Following Iron Man’s debut, Captain America was discovered encased in ice and reawakened to assume leadership of the newly formed team. The rest of the Avengers joined soon thereafter, either as new recruits or existing partners of SHIELD. Today, however, with over half of the original Avengers either retired, deceased, or marooned in space, there exists a significant void for new champions of Earth. The urgency is heightened as the Multiverse Saga draws to a close, prompting the MCU to find solutions swiftly.
10 There’s No Billionaire Backer
While financial resources are not the sole priority, having substantial wealth undoubtedly facilitates the logistics of assembling a superhero team. Tony Stark not only provided significant funding for the Avengers but also contributed his engineering prowess and owned a weapons manufacturing company. Currently, however, the new Avengers lack a clear financial supporter.
The Avengers Compound may still be operational, but questions loom regarding its current management and financial viability. Notably, Stark Tower has been sold to Valentina Allegra de Fontaine and will be showcased in the upcoming Thunderbolts film. Unfortunately, it appears that Valentina and her affiliates are more inclined to support a team of anti-heroes rather than true superheroes, making it challenging for the new Avengers to function effectively without financial resources.
9 There May Be Too Many Recruitment Options
The current landscape presents an overwhelming array of potential recruits for the Avengers, yet readiness and compatibility remain questionable. Since Endgame, the introduction of various heroes spans from young teens gaining powers to individuals wielding ancient Egyptian abilities, complicating the recruitment process.
Despite the vast pool of heroes, pinpointing complementary members who can forge a dynamic and cohesive team proves difficult. In the wake of SHIELD’s downfall, a comprehensive tracking system for emerging heroes also appears to have vanished, further complicating the formation of a new group capable of addressing imminent threats effectively.
8 Team-Up Experience Is Surprisingly Low
A critical aspect of team dynamics is the experience of its members, and in this regard, most of the newly introduced heroes fall short. Although Ms. Marvel had brief collaboration with Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau, their team dynamics in The Marvels highlighted the complications that can arise within a freshly assembled group. Unfamiliarity with one another can hinder their effectiveness in overcoming challenges.
Many heroes have primarily worked in isolation or have faced betrayals that make team integration particularly daunting. Shang-Chi’s trust issues stem from familial betrayal, while the Eternals exist in a fractured state, complicating their ability to reunite as a cohesive force. Ensuring synergy among these diverse characters is a formidable challenge moving forward.
7 Doctor Doom Threatens To Be More Charismatic Than Any Avenger
The impending return of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom raises concerns about overshadowing the new Avengers team. Known for his charisma as Tony Stark, Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Victor Von Doom promises to be captivating, as Doom is notorious for his genius intellect and commanding presence.
While he is positioned as a villain, his resemblance to Stark in personality could divert attention away from the new Avengers, particularly if they lack the strength or character to stand out against his formidable presence.
6 Spider-Man Is A Stranger Again
Spider-Man once had the potential to lead a new version of the Avengers or Young Avengers, given his impressive abilities and intellect. Tony Stark clearly recognized Spider-Man’s potential and entrusted him with the EDITH glasses. However, Peter Parker now navigates a new reality where he remains a stranger to everyone he once knew.
As Spider-Man’s identity becomes increasingly concealed, his capacity to lead others without full transparency raises questions about trust within the group. Additionally, having recently chosen a quieter life, Peter may be hesitant to engage with superhero responsibilities so soon after his name was cleared.
5 Hulk’s Greatest Weapon Has Been Nerfed
The introduction of Smart Hulk brought a new perspective, allowing Bruce Banner to merge intellect with his formidable strength. Nonetheless, this transformation comes at a cost. The absence of the Hulk’s rage—his original power source—results in a muted version of the character.
The lack of unbridled anger leaves Hulk vulnerable; as threats escalate, Banner may find himself limited in unleashing the full potential of his alter ego, especially in high-stakes scenarios.
4 There Is No Clear Leader Lined Up To Take Over
Speculation surrounding potential leadership for the new Avengers remains rife, yet no strong candidates have emerged. Previously, Captain America and Iron Man provided robust leadership, each bringing unique skills to the table—strategic planning and logistical support, respectively.
In contrast, Sam Wilson has assumed the mantle of Captain America, though his readiness to lead a new generation of heroes is still uncertain. Similarly, with Spider-Man’s public identity obscured and Doctor Strange’s reckless tendencies, determining a suitable leader for the new Avengers presents a challenge.
3 The World Has A Bar That They Will Judge The New Heroes Against
With the legacy of the original Avengers casting a long shadow, any new team members will inevitably face comparisons to their predecessors. The previous team faced numerous challenges but solidified their status as heroes, especially after their significant role in restoring the universe post-snap.
This intense scrutiny may deter potential heroes from stepping forward, fearing they may not measure up to the high standards established by giants like Captain America and Iron Man. Furthermore, public sentiment may linger on past heroes, resulting in skepticism towards the competence and motives of new recruits.
2 They Will Likely Face Stricter Government Oversight
Following the implementation of the Sokovia Accords, the reality for superheroes has transformed significantly. With nations demanding accountability from heroes, the original Avengers enjoyed some operational freedom during crises. However, a newly assembled team may not experience the same leeway.
There is a potential for more stringent regulations to be established, casting a shadow over a new team composed mostly of less experienced individuals. Any proposed organization would likely be subjected to scrutiny, hampering the efficiency and agility required during urgent scenarios.
1 There Is No SHIELD To Bring Heroes Together
With the dissolution of SHIELD, a fundamental component of the superhero recruitment process is absent. SHIELD’s role as a coordinator and protector against extraterrestrial threats has been significantly diminished, leaving a void in the recruitment and collaboration process of potential heroes.
The emergence of SWORD does indicate a shift in governmental strategy towards heroes, now adopting an offensive posture amid rising distrust, particularly given recent Skrull infiltrations. Consequently, the new Avengers’ formation will encounter additional difficulties in establishing trust and unity, as mechanisms that previously facilitated hero recruitment are now ineffective.
