2024 KBS Song Festival Cancels Red Carpet and Photo Wall Events

The highly anticipated 2024 KBS Song Festival has officially scrapped its traditional red carpet and photo wall segments, significantly altering the annual event’s format.

On December 13, Iilgan Sports reported that KBS issued a formal announcement regarding this cancellation. The network stated, “Following discussions with our production team, we have decided to cancel the artist photo wall event for the ‘2024 KBS Song Festival,’ originally set for December 20 at 4 PM KST.”

KBS emphasized their commitment to enhancing the quality of the live broadcast, adding, “We appreciate your understanding, as this decision aims to concentrate our efforts on delivering a superior viewing experience.”

The organizers had intended to implement a more streamlined approach this year, opting for a modest photoshoot instead of the usual red carpet extravaganza paired with pre-show interviews. However, this plan has also been abandoned.

This decision comes in the midst of widespread protests in South Korea, prompted by calls for the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol. The situation escalated following the president’s declaration of martial law on December 3, which ignited fierce public outrage despite its subsequent lifting. KBS’s headquarters in Yeouido has been a focal point for many of these rallies.

In addition to the Song Festival, KBS has also cancelled the red carpet segment for the upcoming 2024 KBS Entertainment Awards, indicating a broader impact from the ongoing political climate in the country.
