2024: A Pivotal Year for Wolverine’s Sons
In 2024, Wolverine’s sons made significant leaps in the Marvel Universe’s landscape. One son met his demise only to be resurrected as the new Ghost Rider, while another, Jimmy Hudson, embarked on a Multiversal adventure. This journey not only showcased his unique abilities but also culminated in him playing a crucial role in saving the world, all while featuring prominently in an engaging new series.
Jimmy Hudson emerged as an essential ally during the fight against the ‘Zombiote’ invasion, a key plot point in the recent crossover event. This marked a breakout moment for the character, notwithstanding his sporadic presence in the Marvel canon over the years. This development implies that Marvel is committed to expanding Hudson’s character profile, allowing him to step out of his father’s very large shadow.
Jimmy Hudson’s Unique Attributes in 2024
Jimmy’s backstory is intriguing, even among Wolverine’s lineage. Initially introduced in the original Ultimate Universe as the son of Logan after his father’s death, Jimmy’s popularity never truly rivaled that of his father. Nevertheless, Marvel chose to retain him during the destruction of his universe, establishing him as a Multiversal refugee. Notably, he has garnered support from noted writer Cullen Bunn, who has depicted his transformation into Poison and contributed to most of Jimmy’s recent appearances in the X-Men and Venom arcs. However, apart from Bunn’s narrative guidance, Jimmy has faced challenges in finding a stable niche within the broader Marvel Universe.
Readers are yet to see the full extent of Jimmy’s unique Poison powers, including his surprising seventh claw, particularly in the ongoing TVA series. This raises the possibility that the version of Jimmy seen here could be a variant from a different timeline.
Marvel’s Renewed Commitment to Jimmy Hudson
As we move into 2025, the question remains whether Jimmy’s recent appearances indicate a solidified character arc. Although being featured in multiple series is a promising sign, he remains an underdog in the realm of symbiotes and Wolverine’s legacy—apart from perhaps being favored by Bunn. The TVA series intentionally comprises various Multiversal outcasts, and Jimmy fits that description, giving him the opportunity to further develop his character. Yet, while his increased visibility is encouraging, there is still substantial growth needed before he can be regarded as anything close to A-List within Marvel’s extensive pantheon.
