Marvel Studios appears to have missed a significant opportunity amidst recent casting developments in the MCU. Initially, Kang the Conqueror was poised to be the central figure in the Multiverse Saga, serving as the main adversary that the Avengers would confront. However, following Jonathan Majors’ conviction on two counts of harassment and assault, the actor has officially been removed from all future Marvel projects.
Following the news of Majors’ departure, fans speculated about the possibility of recasting Kang. However, those expectations were dashed when Marvel redirected its narrative focus away from Kang, opting instead to spotlight Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. While it seems the search for a new actor to portray Kang has been abandoned, a wealth of other talented performers have been discussed, including one who has now been cast in an upcoming Marvel project with vast potential still in store.
Colman Domingo Joins the MCU as a New Character in 2025
Colman Domingo has emerged as a fan-favorite contender for the role of Kang within the MCU. Recognized for his impressive performances in theater and series such as Euphoria and Fear the Walking Dead, Domingo’s versatility and talent made him a prime candidate. Although any possibility of him stepping into Kang’s shoes has been sidelined, he is set to make his debut in the MCU by voicing Norman Osborn in the animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, scheduled for release in January 2025.
In previous discussions, Domingo expressed his eagerness to connect with Marvel Studios, showing interest in a meaningful role that ignited his passion. While fans may have expected a live-action part, his initial involvement will be through voice acting. Nevertheless, his commitment hints at exciting prospects for Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Missed Opportunities: Domingo’s Potential Beyond Voice Acting
Set in an alternate timeline distinct from the primary MCU narrative, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will feature Domingo in a role that is not considered official canon. While this might disappoint some fans, it opens the door for further opportunities within the MCU. With Domingo now part of the franchise, Marvel could capitalize on his talent and charisma in future projects.
Although Domingo’s role in the animated series may not align with the expectations of his debut, it signifies his entry into the Marvel universe after the shift from Kang. This animated project could serve as an excellent introduction, potentially leading to an appearance in live-action roles in the future. Whether he portrays Norman Osborn or another significant character, Marvel should ensure that such a gifted talent is fully utilized within the cinematic landscape.
