4 Minutes: The Contrasting Lives of Tyme and Great versus Tonkla and Korn

At the end of episode 7 of 4 Minutes, the anticipation had built as Tyme was shot in the chest, while Great lay in a hospital bed, doctors striving to revive him.

Episode 8, the series’ final chapter, opens with a poignant sequence where Tyme amicably parts ways with his ex-girlfriend, followed by his heartfelt reunion with Great. The two share flirtations and peaceful moments together; however, it’s soon revealed that these idyllic scenes are merely figments of Tyme’s imagination.

The audience becomes aware of this when Tyme is shown sleeping alone, and the haunting voice of Doctor Den pierces through the dream state. Den implores Tyme to wake up, warning that these visions are illusions and he is on the brink of death.

As Den administers CPR to Tyme, his subconscious hears the doctor’s voice and propels him to seek out Great, in an effort to awaken him as well. Den’s intervention successfully revives Tyme from cardiac arrest, and he is immediately rushed to the hospital.

In tandem, a subplot develops involving Great’s brother Korn and his fiancée, Fah. Initially engaged for financial benefits, Fah ultimately calls off the wedding, leaving Korn shocked and confused.

Meanwhile, Inspector Win discloses to his department that Tonkla, seeking revenge for the death of his brother Dome (a friend of Great), is responsible for multiple murders. Win is determined to bring Tonkla to justice.

As this situation escalates, Korn reaches out to Tonkla, offering support, despite Tonkla being a fugitive. Inspector Win utilizes CCTV footage to track their location. In a gripping confrontation at a remote garage, Tonkla confesses to Korn that he had betrayed him with Win and admits to shooting Great as part of his revenge for Dome’s death.

Korn, overwhelmed with shock and rage, confronts Win and, amidst the turmoil, accidents strike, resulting in Win inadvertently shooting Tonkla as he attempts to shield Korn. The devastating wound proves fatal, leading Tonkla to succumb, and shortly thereafter, Korn, consumed by grief, takes his own life. This heart-wrenching moment resonates heavily as the couple’s happiest memories replay before their tragic conclusion, symbolizing their own “4 minutes”moment.

The episode transitions to an emotionally charged scene at the cemetery, where Great mourns Korn while Tyme grieves the loss of his grandmother. Momentarily afterwards, they visit the hospital, connecting with Den and his patient, now-girlfriend Lukwa. Great and Lukwa share a fascinating bond, both having experienced prophetic visions of the future.

As the episode progresses, Great and Tyme find themselves aboard a boat, anxiously watching as the clock approaches 11:04—the time significant in their earlier visions.

As the clock strikes 11:05 without incident, they breathe a sigh of relief, recognizing that their shared moments are indeed real. Great ultimately confesses his past actions to Win; however, he faces no repercussions as he wasn’t directly responsible for Dome’s demise.

The series concludes on a bittersweet note. While the protagonists, Tyme and Great, achieve their happy ending and begin their life together, the tragic outcomes for Tonkla and Korn leave viewers feeling a mix of emotions.
