Rapper 50 Cent, also known as Curtis Jackson, has recently shared his thoughts on the numerous criminal cases brought against Diddy. He suggested that Diddy’s ongoing dispute with the liquor conglomerate Diageo has transformed these civil cases into criminal charges. According to 50 Cent, Diddy’s demand for increased ownership in the company led to these complications.
In May 2023, Diddy initiated legal action against Diageo, alleging that they failed to adequately promote their Ciroc vodka and DeLeon tequila brands. The music mogul claimed that these products were not given the necessary focus compared to other brands within Diageo’s portfolio. Unfortunately, this lawsuit resulted in a spiral of legal challenges for Diddy, ultimately leading to his incarceration.
During a discussion at Invest Fest 2024, which was shared by DJ Akademiks on Instagram, 50 Cent likened his own experiences with Beam Centauri to Diddy’s legal issues. He explained the complexities that arise when celebrity figures seek ownership in brand partnerships.
“It is not so cool when you start to own things. So I made a lot of money with them too. Like there’s a point they did a deal that mirrored what Puffy’s deal with Diageo was for Ciroc,” stated 50 Cent.
He further elaborated:
“Don’t think that the civil case doesn’t turn into a criminal case faster because he’s making them uncomfortable. That’s a big part of it.”
The partnership between Beam Centauri and 50 Cent was financially lucrative, but hurdles emerged when long-term ownership was introduced. He referenced this experience to underscore Diddy’s challenges with Diageo.
After the legal conflict, Diddy and Diageo mutually ended their partnership. Both parties released a joint statement, declaring:
“Sean Combs and Diageo have now agreed to resolve all disputes between them. Mr. Combs has withdrawn all of his allegations about Diageo and will voluntarily dismiss his lawsuits against Diageo with prejudice.”
50 Cent wrapped up the discussion by advising aspiring entrepreneurs eyeing entry into substantial businesses. He highlighted the power dynamics often at play in such deals, shedding light on the obstacles new entrants may face.
“I Don’t Have 1,000 Bottles of Lube”- 50 Cent Mocks Diddy Following Federal Indictment
50 Cent is currently promoting his new book, “The Accomplice,”on a media tour. Following an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, he shared a photo with the hostess while also taking a jab at Diddy.
“Here I am keeping good company with @DrewBarrymoreTV and I don’t have 1,000 bottles of lube at the house,” 50 Cent captioned the photo.
The mention of 1,000 bottles of lube refers to a recent incident where federal authorities seized over a thousand bottles of lubricants and oils from Diddy’s residences in Miami and Los Angeles.
As reported by Billboard, Diddy was arrested on September 16 for charges that include s*x trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He additionally faces prior accusations involving forced labor, arson, kidnapping, and bribery.
“For decades, Sean Combs … abused, threatened and coerced women and others around him to fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation and conceal his conduct. To do so, Combs relied on the employees, resources, and influence of his multi-faceted business empire that he led and controlled,” stated the legal indictment.
If found guilty, the music mogul could face a minimum sentence of 15 years, extending up to life imprisonment.
