Even after more than ten years since its launch, 7 Days To Die is enjoying unprecedented player engagement thanks to a series of exceptional updates. New players are flocking to download the game. However, for those diving in for the first time, it can be quite daunting to grasp where to start and what actions to prioritize.
Survival is not guaranteed; everything in the game poses a threat, from enemies and traps to environmental dangers. Among the numerous challenges players face, infection from zombie encounters is a common concern—and that’s precisely where honey becomes crucial. This guide aims to elucidate the importance of honey in your survival strategy.
What Does Honey Do?
Honey serves two primary functions: restoring hunger levels and curing infections.
Curing Infections With Honey
Infection is an inevitable part of gameplay, as most enemies can inflict the zombie virus with their attacks. When infected, a percentage bar appears on your screen, indicating the urgency of treatment. This bar will incrementally rise until it reaches 100%, at which point the player dies.
While the infection progresses gradually, each hit from an enemy accelerates its rate. For instance, if you sustain an infection during a challenging clearing of a Point of Interest (POI), the infection may escalate rapidly as you continue. Consuming honey mitigates this risk by lowering your infection rate by 5%. This benefit is cumulative; consuming multiple jars can yield even greater reduction.
Nevertheless, it’s important to note that honey doesn’t provide instant relief. After consumption, the infection icon displayed will turn white, signaling the start of healing. If the icon reverts to orange, it indicates that the effect has faded, and the infection resumes its progression. Honey is classified as the most basic infection remedy, readily available compared to alternatives like Herbal Antibiotics or Antibiotics.
Honey As A Food Item
In addition to its healing properties, honey replenishes the player’s hunger meter, providing 8 food and 3 health points upon consumption. Although this nourishment can be valuable, it’s advisable to reserve honey primarily for combating infections.
Moreover, honey is an essential ingredient for crafting Grandpa’s Awesome Sauce. This beverage enhances trading prices for three minutes, offering substantial benefits. Although it can be purchased from traders and vending machines, it tends to be pricey. Crafting the drink also rewards you with a 10% discount on bartering costs. The recipe requires:
- 1 Jar Of Honey
- 50 Dukes
- 5 Mushrooms
- 10 Gas Can
- 1 Ear Of Super Corn
Getting Honey From Tree Stumps
The primary source of honey comes from tree stumps, predominantly found in the pine forests and snow biomes. When destroyed, stumps yield wood and have a 20% probability of dropping honey. This chance increases to 40% if the stump lies within a POI. An ideal location for honey collection is the Journey’s End Retirement Home, where multiple stumps are often located.
Getting Honey From Traders
Trader inventories can be somewhat erratic, influenced by the player’s loot stage and the specific trader in question. As players progress, the loot stage increases, which enhances the quality of items available for purchase. Therefore, while honey isn’t exceptionally rare in trader inventories, its availability may be limited, especially in the early game.
Different traders tend to specialize in diverse item categories. For example, Trader Rekt often has a focus on food and seeds, giving him a higher likelihood of stocking honey. Conversely, Trader Jen is renowned for medicinal supplies, making her another reliable source. It’s advisable to check in with traders regularly, as their stock rotates frequently.
Completing trader missions also carries a possibility of receiving honey as a reward, though you might be presented with higher-quality cure options instead. Always evaluate potential rewards before making a selection.
How To Get Honey Early On
Acquiring honey during your initial day is quite straightforward. Each playthrough presents unique challenges, one of which tasks players with gathering a total of five jars of honey from tree stumps. By tracking this challenge, nearby stumps will be highlighted, simplifying your efforts. If you pursue this objective after completing the introductory tasks, you can accumulate a stockpile of honey by the end of your first day—an invaluable resource for managing infections ahead.
Finding Honey In Loot Containers
While it’s not very common, honey can occasionally be found in specific loot containers. Your game and loot stage significantly influence the items discovered within these containers. Additionally, advancing to rank two in the Master Chef skill enhances the likelihood of finding salvageable food in dumpsters, which includes honey.
Typically, honey is located in Shamway crates and food piles, commonly positioned in grocery stores and kitchens. These containers might also show up as primary loot crates at the end of a POI. By checking these crates, investing in the Master Chef skill, and exploring dumpsters, you’ll soon stock up on a generous supply of honey.
A Book That Increases Your Honey Finding Odds
The game features a variety of books to discover and read. One significant title is Wasteland Treasures Volume 1, which provides a slight advantage in harvesting honey from regular trees. Although the likelihood is far lower than chopping down stumps, regular woodcutting is an essential activity, leading to ample opportunities for honey collection as you progress.
