In the extensive history of Married At First Sight, there have been numerous instances where the expert panel has struggled to fulfill their roles effectively. However, the current season seems to highlight mistakes at an unprecedented level. Over the course of season 18, the experts have aimed to establish couples capable of nurturing successful relationships throughout the experiment. Despite varying levels of commitment among the couples, many have found themselves battling to sustain their relationships, even under the most straightforward conditions.
The Married At First Sight experts have had a challenging track record in crafting couples that can thrive, as evidenced by their failure to create more than two successful pairs over the past six seasons. Dr. Pepper Schwartz, the series’ longest-tenured expert, has collaborated with Pastor Cal Roberson for nearly the entirety of her tenure. While Dr. Pepper and Pastor Cal have been fixtures on the show for nearly ten years, Dr. Pia Holec has joined them in recent seasons without similar success.
Despite the fact that Married At First Sight does not promise success to its participants, the show aims to provide a positive experience. In recent seasons, couples have engaged more directly with each other than with the expert panel, especially in season 18, where participants have been left to face challenges largely without expert guidance.
This season, while the experts claim to have worked tirelessly to ensure the participants’ well-being, their actual presence has been minimal and unhelpful. Counseling sessions have taken place, but the couples frequently find themselves struggling with insufficient advice. The expert panel’s absence has been palpable, and they require substantial improvements to better serve future participants.
8 The MAFS Experts Should Not Have Cast Michelle
She’s Not Actively Participating In The Experiment
Michelle Tomblin has established herself as one of the most challenging figures in Married At First Sight history, yet the experts played a pivotal role in her inclusion in the series and the pairing with her husband, David Trimble. During the matchmaking special for season 18, the panel offered insights into their decision to couple David and Michelle together, which has raised eyebrows among viewers.
7 The MAFS Experts Ignored David’s Red Flag Living Situation
He’s Still Living With His Parents
Amidst Michelle’s tumultuous journey on season 18, serious red flags have surfaced relating to her spouse, David. His failure to disclose his living situation—sharing a home with his parents—became a critical issue when Michelle discovered this detail. This lack of transparency and an apparent lack of independence triggered significant concerns for her.
A social worker by profession, David explained to the panel that he had previously lived independently but returned to his parents’ home to save for a potential future together. However, the MAFS experts seemingly overlooked David’s dependencies and Michelle’s clear preference for an independent partner.
6 Dr. Pia Let Ikechi’s Bad Attitude Slide
She Didn’t Call Him Out
While the experts aimed to navigate through the matchmaking process, the chemistry among newly paired couples has varied significantly. Ikechi Ojoré and his partner Emem Obot were expected to form a solid bond, yet issues emerged almost immediately. Ikechi’s problematic attitude has surfaced prominently during counseling, but Dr. Pia failed to address his inappropriate behavior during a crucial session, leading to concerns about her judgment as a counselor.
5 The MAFS Experts Did Not Help David & Michelle On Their Honeymoon
The Couple Could’ve Been Couselled Earlier
The Married At First Sight experts are expected to be available to guide participants throughout their journey; however, this season saw notable gaps in support. Couples often appear to lack immediate access to help when challenges arise. Specifically, during the honeymoon phase, David and Michelle struggled significantly without the guidance they desperately needed, which ultimately led to escalating issues.
4 Dr. Pepper & Pastor Cal Are Too Aloof About The Couples’ Problems
They’re Not Specific In Their Sessions
Throughout their tenure, Dr. Pepper and Pastor Cal have displayed a pattern of providing generalized advice to couples. Their more aloof approach often leaves participants needing more focused guidance tailored to their unique challenges. As season 18 proceeds, it has become increasingly evident that both experts are operating on autopilot, addressing issues without delving into specifics, which leaves couples without actionable insights.
3 The MAFS Experts Let Camille Put Down Thomas
They Didn’t Account For Camille’s Behavior
Without consistent expert oversight, the actions of participants often go unchecked. In the case of Camille and Thomas, who demonstrate potential compatibility, the experts have hesitated to intervene when Camille has expressed negativity towards Thomas. Although Camille has articulated her expectations for improvement, the experts have failed to address her disparaging comments, opting instead to overlook problematic behaviors.
2 The MAFS Experts Are Not Being Hard Enough On Karla
She’s Acting Immaturely With Juan
The approach of the MAFS experts has often been too lenient, allowing behavioral issues to persist. Karla Juarez has openly acknowledged her high-maintenance tendencies while navigating her relationship with Juan Franco, leading to instances of immaturity and conflict. However, there has yet to be a concerted effort from the experts to challenge her actions directly, resulting in detrimental effects on her relationship.
1 The MAFS Experts Didn’t Recognize Ikechi Is A Clout Chaser
They Didn’t Practice Precaution Around His Appearance
Season 18 of Married At First Sight reintroduced Ikechi Ojoré, who had previously auditioned for the show unsuccessfully. However, his motivations for joining this time seem questionable, as many suspect he may be more interested in increasing his visibility than forging a meaningful connection with Emem. The MAFS experts should have identified Ikechi’s clout-chasing tendencies before including him in the cast, but unfortunately, he was allowed to participate.
