Fans React: BLACKPINK Becomes Most Streamed AI-Cover Artist Globally, Faces Major Loss of $414K

On Tuesday, September 17, a new study from the UK revealed that BLACKPINK has emerged as the most streamed AI-cover artist globally. According to the Music Magpie report, BLACKPINK, alongside Justin Bieber and Kanye West, holds the top positions among the most streamed AI-cover artists.

The K-pop girl group leads the ranking significantly with over 17.3 million views, resulting in an estimated loss of around $414K from these streams.

This recent study has sparked substantial discussions among the girl group’s fans and other social media users, flooding platforms with their opinions on the findings. One fan commented:

“This is embarrassing tbh, it shows how much we are starving, on the other hand, it shows that BLACKPINK’s voices make every song better.”

Various reactions from BLACKPINK admirers were observed online. While one fan acknowledged the significant impact the K-pop group has on streaming numbers, others expressed a strong desire for new music from the girls.

“Blinks are thirsty for BLACKPINK’s comeback” – wrote another fan.

“Blinks being thirsty for BLACKPINK wanting to hear them no matter what” – stated another X user.

“The pinks being the most streamed shows their impact” – commented a fan.

While some fans expressed frustration over the lengthy wait for new tracks from BLACKPINK, others pointed out that AI-generated songs feel inauthentic.

“Fans trying to survive this @BLACKPINK drought” – another fan lamented.

“Do something” – a fan suggested.

“You can’t lose revenue on music you didn’t make… The songs are fake.” – voiced another X user.

The Rise of AI is Impacting K-pop Creators like BLACKPINK, Stray Kids, Enhypen, and More

The UK publication Music Magpie conducted an extensive analysis of 1,500 AI-generated remixes and songs, examining the number of streams, videos, and the popularity of various AI artists to assess the potential threats and financial losses.

A number of K-pop stars featured in the long list of “most streamed AI”musicians compiled by the publication. BLACKPINK, with over 17 million views, sits at the top, followed by Jimin, Jennie, Stray Kids, TWICE, NCT DREAM, and ENHYPEN, who also made it into the top twenty.

According to the study, even some of the industry’s biggest names are facing repercussions as AI-generated songs amass millions of streams, siphoning revenue away from their original artists.

The ease of access to AI technology and the surge in AI-generated tracks and covers have raised alarms within the music industry, prompting significant change. The lines between artificial intelligence (AI) and genuine human creativity are increasingly blurred, complicating the ability of audiences to distinguish between the work of real musicians and that produced by machine learning programs.

As technology continues to gain ground, many are questioning the worth of human artistry, the authenticity of music, and the implications for artists’ earnings. Currently, there are over 1,630,000 AI covers available on YouTube alone.

The report indicates that AI is becoming increasingly adept at replicating human creativity, raising concerns about revenue loss due to the influx of AI-generated recordings that mimic popular styles and vocals.
