Rich Homie Quan, whose real name was Dequantes Devontay Lamar, tragically passed away at the age of 34 on Thursday, September 5, 2024. His funeral took place at a church in South Fulton on September 17, starting at 11 am. In the meantime, images and videos showcasing Quan’s open casket circulated widely across social media platforms.

Many social media users expressed discontent regarding some of the content shared online. However, numerous others argued that since the casket was open, there was no issue with the images being posted.

One X user voiced:

“The family got Rich Homie Quan’s casket open on national TV yet people on the internet are acting outraged about it. I despise when people think they can weigh in on what those who know HIM PERSONALLY chose for his service…”

“It’s unfortunate that we must request people not to share pictures and videos of individuals resting in their caskets,”commented another frustrated netizen.

“You all really complain about anything. It was Rich Homie Quan’s FAMILY’S DECISION to have an open casket funeral and LIVESTREAM it,”stated another user.

The official cause of Rich Homie Quan’s death has not been disclosed as of yet.

Rich Homie Quan’s funeral service was originally intended to be private

The funeral ceremony for the late rapper garnered significant attention as it turned into a large-scale celebration. According to Yahoo Entertainment, although his family initially desired a “quick, private service for the family to commence the healing process,”Quan’s father and manager, Corey Lamar, opted to transform it into a grander event.

As reported by Vibe, the service included an open casket where the rapper’s loved ones, including friends and family, paid their final respects by kissing his forehead and placing a crown on his head before it was closed.

The Shade Room disclosed that the funeral service was streamed live on the rapper’s official website.

In honor of Rich Homie Quan’s contributions, Atlanta City declared September 17 as Rich Homie Quan Memorial Day. Various artists such as Killer Mike, DC Young Fly, and Stephen Jackson took to the stage to share their thoughts and memories.

Born in 1989, Quan released only one studio album during his life, titled Rich As In Spirit, which debuted in 2018 and achieved considerable success, reaching 33rd on the Billboard 200.

His debut single, Differences, was released in 2012, and over the years, he garnered substantial fame and appreciation. Fans have been expressing their condolences following his untimely demise.
