The premiere episode of Season 5, set at a Valentine’s party hosted by Lisa Barlow called ‘Besos’ (which means Kisses in English), quickly turned into a battleground of arguments and allegations as the housewives voiced their grievances.

The official synopsis for the opening episode of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 5 states:

“Lisa celebrates Valentine’s Day by throwing a Besos party; Meredith confronts Whitney; both Angie and Meredith seek apologies; Lisa’s friend Bronwyn brings a new level of sophistication, fashion, and a critical eye to the group.”

Episode 1 Recap: How Did It Unfold?

The premiere episode began with Lisa Barlow’s extravagant Valentine’s party, where the housewives entered one by one, adding a mix of glamour and drama. Flashbacks were incorporated as Lisa reflected on the tumultuous events of Season 4 involving her confrontation with Monica. She remarked:

“Last year wasn’t the easiest. There was so much turmoil with my friends. It’s not the first time we’ve gone through it, but it’s the worst time we’ve gone through it. I think that brings all of us so close together.”

As the party progressed, Lisa confided in Heather and Angie about her feelings towards Whitney, mentioning that she found Whitney rude on a podcast hosted by Nick Viall on February 1, 2024. On the podcast, Whitney stated:

“She doesn’t care about anything else other than being right. Lisa’s always been the villain!”

Meanwhile, Heather and Mary kicked off the new season on a positive note, with Mary complimenting Heather’s looks. Heather expressed her happiness regarding the improvement in their friendship and her impressive 25-pound weight loss. She shared in a confession:

‘I finally cracked the code. I lost 25 pounds, and now Mary Cosby loves me.”

Adding humor, she joked:

“I’ve gone from ‘inbred, to pretty and thin. This is the start of a beautiful relationship.”

The premiere also featured a significant heated exchange between Meredith and Whitney, as Meredith accused Whitney of encroaching on her business initiatives. Meredith confronted Whitney about her bath bombs business, stating:

“What is wrong with you? Why are you doing this?”

Whitney replied,

“I have no problem with you. You’re reading way too much into this.”

In a confessional, Whitney voiced her concerns:

“I am genuinely concerned that Meredith is spending too much time in the bathtub … I think everything is starting to shrivel up and prune, including her brain.”

As dinner began, it appeared the housewives were headed for a truce. However, tensions flared once more between Whitney and Lisa about the controversial podcast. Lisa, exclaiming that Whitney was a liar, smashed her glass on the floor, declaring:

“I will be your villain, b***h! Game on. You want me to be your villain, I’ll be your villain.”

Heather accused Whitney of fabricating claims regarding her support for Heather’s book, while Meredith highlighted Whitney’s allegations about her father’s memorial and suggested that Whitney accused Mary of cult-like behavior. Whitney defended herself, noting that she had already apologized for past issues before choosing to exit the gathering.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 5 premiered on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 9 PM ET/PT on Bravo, with new episodes airing weekly on Bravo and Peacock.
