Kody Brown from Sister Wives Discusses Meeting Christine for the First Time Since Their Split: “There’s So Much Animosity”

TLC’s reality show Sister Wives has captivated audiences since its debut in September 2010, chronicling the lives of Kody Brown and his family. Currently, Kody is married only to Robyn, though he previously had three wives: Meri, Janelle, and Christine. The show highlights the intricate family dynamics and significant milestones experienced by the Brown family during Kody’s life with his wives and children.

The highly anticipated season 19 of Sister Wives premiered on September 15, 2024, featuring Kody’s emotional reaction upon seeing his ex-wife Christine for the first time since their divorce. In the debut episode, Kody remarked that witnessing the tension between them felt “very childish.”

“Seeing her, there’s so much animosity. It’s all something that embarrasses me because I think it’s all very childish,”Brown stated.

Season 19 included a pivotal event where Kody and Christine met after their separation. They both attended their daughter Mykelti Padron’s “Vegas-style”baby sprinkle, celebrating her pregnancy with twins alongside her husband Tony.

Christine took the initiative to organize the baby sprinkle and extended invitations to Kody and Robyn due to their close relationship with Mykelti. Although Janelle Brown was also invited, she couldn’t make it to the celebration.

Christine emphasized her intention to set personal differences aside for her daughter. “I would do anything for Mykelti,”she stated, acknowledging her daughter’s desire for Kody and Robyn to be present. However, she admitted to feeling apprehensive about the potential awkwardness of the situation.

“I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’ll be seeing them after I left. I mean, Kody was furious the last time that he spoke to me, and we haven’t talked since,”she shared.

Kody and Robyn’s Anticipation

Kody also expressed a mix of emotions leading up to the gathering. While excited to celebrate his daughter, he recognized the complexity of the circumstances. Both Kody and Robyn felt “terribly nervous”about confronting Christine.

Kody admitted he couldn’t conceal his feelings, acknowledging the animosity present and describing it as embarrassing, adding it was “all very childish.”

Robyn conveyed her apprehensions about attending the baby sprinkle, recalling that the last interaction with Christine ended with Christine expressing her desire to distance herself from Robyn and her children.

The Awkward Reunion

During the baby sprinkle, Christine lightheartedly suggested that guests could “take bets”on her interaction with Kody. Throughout the event, Kody and Robyn maintained their distance from Christine.

Robyn clarified that while she couldn’t speak for Kody, she chose to keep her distance and opted not to greet Christine, explaining she didn’t want to intrude.

“I want any relationship that I can have, but it takes two.”

At 52, Christine managed to notice their attempts to avoid her, stating that acting otherwise would feel “disingenuous.”She clarified that not greeting Kody and Robyn indicated she wasn’t prepared to be friends.

Christine acknowledged the dynamics at play, stating that the encounter was likely “more awkward for them,”considering they were the outsiders in this situation.

“I just don’t want to talk to her. I don’t want to see her. She doesn’t want to see me, I’m sure, either,”Kody remarked.

He also reflected on the challenges he has faced following estrangements from Meri and Janelle, shortly after Christine’s departure, and noted Christine appeared to be thriving since her breakup, while he and Robyn encountered difficulties. In a confessional on Sister Wives, Kody admitted they were “kind of in a struggling place.”

The Current State of Kody and Robyn’s Marriage

In the same episode, Robyn elaborated on the turbulence in her marriage to Kody, describing the phase as “particularly challenging.”

“We’re probably doing the worst we’ve ever done in our marriage. It’s been tough. It’s been tough between us,”she admitted.

During a confessional, Robyn pointed out that Kody’s feelings of rejection were adding strain to their relationship. She felt the need to be cautious not to contribute to their marital problems.

“Kody’s feeling a lot of rejection. I think he’s kind of looking at me going, ‘Are you going to reject me too?’ So, I’m on my toes. I’m having to consistently make sure that he is not sabotaging our relationship,”she explained.

Looking Ahead

Christine recognized that future encounters with Kody and Robyn were inevitable. With Robyn set to be present for the twins’ birth, Christine understood they would inevitably “have to be in the same space sometimes.”

“We’re just going to have to be in the same space sometimes…And for sure, Robyn’s going to be at the birth of the twins too…This is just what it is. We’re just going to be in the same space.”
