“We Were Truly Blindsided” — Madison Brown of Sister Wives Reflects on Brother Garrison’s Passing

TLC kicked off the much-anticipated Sister Wives Season 19 on Sunday, September 15, 2024, spotlighting the dynamics within the Brown family. This season delves into the lives of Kody Brown and his four “Sister Wives”: Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn, alongside their 18 children.

In the premiere episode, the Browns confront the sorrowful loss of a family member, Robert Garrison. Reflecting on his passing in March 2024, his sister Madison Rose shared an emotional tribute on Instagram.

In her post dated September 5, Madison conveyed her feelings following Garrison’s unexpected passing, describing how the family felt “blindsided” by this tragic event. She wrote:

“My brother, Garrison, faced challenges, but this was a shock for all of us. We were totally blindsided. We had regular conversations, and my mom’s kids have always maintained a close bond even amidst life’s changes. Garrison had a sarcastic humor, and during serious moments, he seemed almost uneasy—struggling to show vulnerability.”

The first episode of Sister Wives Season 19 poignantly illustrates the continued grief experienced by the Brown family after the recent death of Kody and Janelle Brown’s son, Robert Garrison, who tragically passed away on March 5, 2024, at just 25 years old.

Robert, born on April 10, 1998, was found deceased, with the cause later identified as “suicide.”The confirmation from the police has left the Brown family in shock and deep mourning.

In a heartfelt reflection marking six months since Robert’s passing, Madison shared her emotional turmoil on September 5:

“Six months. It’s been six months since this beautiful soul departed from us, and not a single day goes by without thinking of him. It often feels like he occupies my thoughts even more now; sadly, a truth many who have experienced this kind of loss can relate to.”

She further expressed:

“I am continually reminded of how many people are impacted by such loss. Daily, I connect with others who, like myself, were caught off guard by the sudden loss of a loved one. Be it through bullying, loneliness, or mental health crises, I believe we don’t fully grasp the complexities involved.”

Before the season’s debut, Sister Wives star Kody revealed in his September 15 interview with People Magazine that he carries a sense of “regret.”He opened up about missing opportunities to spend more time with his son, Robert Garrison.

While Garrison’s parents are in mourning, his sister Madison Rose, 28, is also navigating her grief. In her heartfelt Instagram tribute, she expressed how dearly she misses Garrison and her struggle with discussing her feelings.

Madison reflected on the possibility that had they all engaged in more open conversations about mental health, circumstances might have unfolded differently.

“It leaves me questioning—if we approached mental health discussions more candidly, could it have made a difference? I may never have that answer. What’s certain is that the pain doesn’t dissipate; it merely shifts. Sometimes, it feels even more pronounced,”Madison shared.

Madison ended her message by reaching out to anyone coping with similar loss, reassuring them that they are not alone in their pain and it’s okay to seek answers.

Fans can catch Sister Wives Season 19 on TLC every Sunday at 10 p.m. ET.
