Decide Between Removing Bodies or Honoring the Dead in Frostpunk 2

Deciding whether to remove the bodies or respect the dead in Frostpunk 2 is one of the crucial choices you’ll encounter early in the game. This decision arises at the Oil Tombs located at the Old Dreadnought, where you’re in search of a sustainable fuel source beyond the limits of your city. You will have to choose between these two morally challenging options to advance in the game.

Set against a bleak post-apocalyptic backdrop, Frostpunk 2 emphasizes the vital need for survival, even if it involves the grim act of exhuming or disposing of deceased bodies to secure additional resources. However, the repercussions of choosing between removing the bodies or honoring the dead in Frostpunk 2 are profound.

This article explores the outcomes resulting from each choice within Frostpunk 2.

If you opt to remove the bodies, it opens up the possibility for you to establish more Extraction Districts, particularly on three Oil tiles, thereby enhancing Oil production from the Old Dreadnought. While this choice grants swift access to valuable resources vital for your city’s expansion and survival, it also entails significant trade-offs.

As you progress in the game, around Week 330, a group of Wanderers arrives, compelling you to either relinquish Oil or defend your territory by dispatching Guard Squads to the Old Dreadnought. Should you have chosen to remove the bodies, you will face stricter demands from the Wanderers—requiring you to provide 30,000 Oil or 12 Guard Squads even at the easiest difficulty level (Citizen).

Conversely, if you choose to respect the dead, you can only develop on two of the three available Oil tiles at the Old Dreadnought. While this limits your Oil production capacity, this choice offers several long-term advantages. Notably, you can opt to build on the third tile at a later stage.

On the downside, constructing in this area may heighten the risk of Disease if the three corresponding tiles of the Extraction District overlap with a Diseased area. Nevertheless, with careful management of district placements, you can effectively mitigate this risk.

Moreover, choosing to respect the dead significantly lessens the demands imposed by the Wanderers event during Week 330. You will only be required to supply 24,000 Oil or maintain 8 Guard Squads under Citizen difficulty. Hence, the eased demands of the Wanderers event enables more manageable gameplay.
