Jungkook of BTS Supports NewJeans, Igniting Speculations of Internal Division at HYBE

On September 16, 2024, reports surfaced indicating that BTS member Jungkook’s public show of support for NewJeans sparked internal concerns within HYBE. According to South Korean media outlet Sports Trends, Jungkook shared an Instagram post featuring NewJeans’ signature colors. This subtle addition, coupled with an empowering emoji, appeared to express solidarity with the girl group.

However, Jungkook’s post caught the attention of many employees. Discussions on the professional platform Blind, which allows verified workers to communicate about work matters anonymously, indicated dissatisfaction. Some staff at HYBE reportedly expressed frustration, suggesting that the post might have significant implications regarding the company’s future direction.

The reaction to Jungkook’s message was mixed. While some employees interpreted it as a supportive gesture towards NewJeans, others speculated that it could be a critique of HYBE’s internal leadership, particularly regarding the ongoing issues with former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin.

One anonymous staff member dismissed the post as potentially ineffective, expressing doubts about its influence, while others voiced worries about the overall culture at HYBE. Concerns about a possible schism within the organization were highlighted, with one employee allegedly stating:

“It feels like the company might really split.”

Another anonymous employee described the post as possibly “useless,”suggesting apprehensions about its effect on HYBE’s public image.

Jungkook’s Support for NewJeans Creates Buzz Among Netizens

Recently, the BTS member generated significant speculation with a post on his dog’s Instagram account (@bowwow_bam). This post appeared to show support for the K-pop girl group NewJeans and stirred conversation amid ongoing tensions between HYBE and former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin.

At first, fans were puzzled, with some even speculating that Jungkook’s account might have been compromised. However, BIGHIT Music, the agency that represents BTS, clarified the situation. A report from My Daily confirmed that Jungkook was indeed the one who made the post, intending to communicate that young artists should be protected from being involved in disputes, seemingly referencing the ongoing conflict between HYBE and Min Hee-jin.

This clarification alleviated concerns about a potential hack. Some viewed the artist’s message as a veiled critique of HYBE’s leadership, specifically targeting former CEO Min Hee-jin. Following the controversy, the artist’s label reiterated his message, urging the public not to misinterpret his intent.

BIGHIT Music also intervened, stating that the Still With You singer’s post aimed to safeguard younger artists from getting entangled in unnecessary conflicts. This situation has highlighted ongoing divisions among employees, revealing rising tensions regarding the treatment of artists and leadership roles within the company.

Meanwhile, Jungkook has been fulfilling his mandatory military service since December 2023 and is expected to resume public activities in June 2025.
