Louisiana-based rapper Lamount London has recently initiated a lawsuit against Quavo, whose real name is Quavious Keyate Marshall, alleging that he copied Lamount’s song. The legal case is connected to Quavo’s 2018 single Bubble Gum, which was featured on his debut album, Quavo Huncho.
Lamount revealed in the court documents acquired by TMZ that he performed at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans in 2016, serving as an opener for Migos and 2 Chainz. The lawsuit claims that after meeting Quavo, he provided him with a CD containing his original track Bubble Gum. Lamount had hoped that the Migos frontman would reach out for a collaboration in the future, but that never transpired.
Years later, Lamount discovered Quavo Huncho and recognized striking similarities between his song Bubble Gum and Quavo’s song of the same name included in the album. He is now pursuing damages against Quavious for allegedly copying the lyrics and composition of his original track.
This lawsuit adds to a growing list of legal troubles for Quavo. In 2021, the Atlanta-born rapper faced a lawsuit from a limo driver who claimed he was assaulted by Quavo outside the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The driver alleged he was attacked “unprovoked”after Quavo mistakenly thought the driver had left a member of his entourage behind at a nightclub.
Quavo Collaborates with Ty Dolla Sign for New Music Video
In recent news, Quavo teamed up with Ty Dolla Sign and composer Brian Tyler for a new music video for the song If I Fall, which is part of the soundtrack for the animated science fiction film, Transformers One. The music video was officially released on September 21, 2024.
Tyler not only composed the track but also co-directed the music video alongside DJ Furth. The duo can be seen in the video along with Quavo and Ty Dolla Sign, while clips from the film provide a visually engaging backdrop.
The song was released earlier this month, and its lyrics reference key characters from the film:
“Ain’t no plan B and we won’t stand for defeat / I’m in my prime, Optimus (Optimus), I’m goin’ big, Megatron / I’ma sting, Bumblebee, now crown the king, hope you proud of me.”
This song is featured during the end credits of the film. In an interview with Variety, Tyler described it as an “anthem”designed to inspire resilience. He delved into the composition, saying:
“I wanted to give [the music] this relative feeling of familiarity, but all of a sudden, his music feels both villainous but also tragic. You understand why this happened. The music had to capture that nuance.”
Tyler also shared his experience directing the video, confessing it was challenging due to the demands of singing while managing musical instruments. Meanwhile, Transformers One premiered in theaters on September 11, 2024, and has already garnered a positive reception.
