Understanding Suicide Watch Issuance: Diddy’s Lawyer Clarifies the Music Mogul’s Situation

The Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn has placed rapper Sean “Diddy”Combs on suicide watch following his arrest on Monday, September 16, 2024. According to People, this decision is a “preventative measure,”as the music mogul is reportedly in “shock”and his mental health status remains “unclear.”

In contrast, Combs’ attorney, Marc Agnifilo, stated to TMZ that his client is not suicidal and that the suicide watch is a standard protocol for “new, high-profile inmates”at the Metropolitan Detention Center.

According to the US Department of Justice National Institute of Corrections, a suicide watch is a “supervisory precaution taken for suicidal inmates that require frequent observation.”

Agnifilo further informed TMZ that Puff Daddy (a.k.a. Sean Combs) is in relatively good spirits and is “not at all suicidal.”He described his client as “strong, healthy, confident, and focused on his defense.”

Diddy’s arrest follows a federal investigation into allegations of sex trafficking and raids on his residences in Miami and Los Angeles back in March. This investigation was initiated after multiple lawsuits were filed against the 54-year-old rapper since the previous year. The legal troubles began in November when his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, accused Combs of rape and abuse.

While Ventura’s lawsuit was settled just one day after being filed, several other individuals have since launched separate lawsuits against the rapper. Combs has consistently denied all allegations. However, in May 2024, CNN published CCTV footage from 2016 showing Diddy dragging and kicking Cassie in a hotel lobby, providing evidence that supported her claims. This led the rapper to post an apology video, which he has since deleted, on his Instagram.

After his arrest, Combs entered a plea of not guilty and has been denied bail twice. The “I’ll Be Missing You”hitmaker faces charges that include racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution.

As reported by El Paso Times, Diddy’s indictment details his involvement in running a “criminal enterprise”that “abused, threatened, and coerced women and others”to “satisfy his sexual desires”in a “recurrent and widely known”pattern of misconduct.

He allegedly hosted “freak off”parties, where he compelled women to take part in “elaborate and produced sex performances.”Reports indicate that he would often drug women to ensure their “obedience and compliance.”According to a Time Magazine report, Diddy used intimidation and threats, including career damages and withdrawal of financial support, against the victims.

During the raids conducted by federal agents, they seized AR-15 rifles, large-capacity magazines, and over one thousand bottles of baby oil and lubricant.

In a statement to USA Today on Monday, Marc Agnifilo labeled the prosecution of his client as “unjust,”affirming their commitment to contest the allegations.

Diddy’s next court hearing is scheduled for September 24, via video conference. If convicted, the rapper could face a prison sentence of up to life.
