Exploring the Beef Between Jelly Roll and Machine Gun Kelly: All My Life Rapper Clarifies Reasons for Their Past Feud

In an insightful interview, rapper and singer Jelly Roll candidly discussed his past conflict with fellow artist Machine Gun Kelly (MGK), revealing the underlying reasons for their previous feud.

On September 13, 2024, during the kickoff episode of Spotify’s vodcast series Countdown To, Jelly Roll was joined by MGK. The two musicians delved into the roots of their previously hostile relationship, providing valuable perspectives on the misunderstandings and competitive dynamics that contributed to their public dispute.

“I was just a spiteful, bitter [expletive] dude, you know what I’m saying? I explain this to people and they don’t understand the concept because of our age now,”Jelly expressed.

Additionally, the Countdown To episode featuring the Tennessee artist coincided with the upcoming launch of his new album, Beautifully Broken, set to release in October.

Spotify’s new Countdown Pages feature, which debuted in July 2024, allows artists and fans to connect more meaningfully with upcoming album releases. This tool enables listeners to preview tracklists, watch exclusive clips, purchase merchandise, and track a real-time countdown to the album’s release.

Jelly Roll Discusses Past Feud with Machine Gun Kelly: Reflecting on Their Hatred

In the September 11 episode, Jelly Roll and Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) recounted the beginnings of their animosity, sharing how they once felt strongly against each other.

Jelly Roll suggested that much of their conflict arose from their youthful perspectives at the time. Their age and competitive nature significantly influenced their past tensions.

The Tennessee artist noted that when he and MGK embarked on their musical journeys, there were very few white rappers in the industry. This lack of representation, he argued, made rivalry nearly unavoidable, as it felt as if they were being set against each other.

“Whenever I talk to my daughter, I’m like, ‘You’ve got to understand. There were only like seven white rappers on earth at that time. So, it was so competitive when you were in the pool that we were kind of automatically forced against each other anyways,” Jelly stated.

MGK echoed Jelly’s sentiments, adding,

“For sure. You’re bred to hate each other,”MGK remarked.

Furthermore, Jelly Roll openly praised MGK, complimenting his looks and charm, and jokingly confessed that he was often envious of him for that reason.

“And you were just like, just skinny and handsome. So I was like, I was just a hater. I was just a hater, dude! It’s hard to grow up in front of the whole world,”Jelly admitted.

Both Jelly Roll and MGK began their careers in the early 2000s alongside artists like Eminem, Beastie Boys, Paul Wall, Yelawolf, and Kid Rock. They had notable tensions in the past, with each releasing diss tracks about the other, including MGK’s Alpha Omega and Jelly Roll’s I Need You.

Although the Tennessee-based artist and MGK never collaborated during their early careers, this year, they surprised fans by announcing their highly anticipated collaboration titled Lonely Road, for which MGK also shared a heartfelt message for Jelly on Instagram.

“From us beefing 12 years ago, and fast forward to us putting out what I believe will be the biggest hit of our careers yet, I’m proud to call you my brother, and life feels better knowing you got my back. This lonely road ain’t so lonely, my friend,”MGK wrote on Instagram.

Jelly Roll also discussed his new album, Beautifully Broken, on the vodcast, indicating that this project took him the longest to create. He mentioned that the songs encapsulate stories he cannot verbally share.

The album is slated for release on October 11, 2024.
