This year, on September 21, 2024, DC and SEGA amazed fans with an unforeseen collaboration. The two entertainment titans teamed up to unveil a teaser featuring Shadow the Hedgehog emerging from the shadows of Gotham City, donning Batman’s emblematic dark attire.
Sonic the Hedgehog’s Official Account on X Shared the Teaser on Batman Day
On September 21, 2024, Sonic the Hedgehog’s official handle, @sonic_hedgehog, shared a teaser video on the social media platform X, using the hashtag #DCxSonic. The video depicts a typical Gotham bandit fleeing from police sirens with a bag of stolen money.
The thief hides in a deserted corner but soon dashes away for safety as Shadow the Hedgehog emerges from the darkness, clad in the recognizable dark cape. This post was later shared by @tyson_hesse, who revealed in the captions that he and his wife were behind the creation of the video. Tyson Hesse is a celebrated American illustrator known for his contributions to the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.
On Batman Day 2024, Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood commemorated the 85th anniversary of Batman’s debut in Detective Comics #27 with an exclusive Batman-themed tour and film screening.
Additionally, LEGO released a three-minute tribute video titled “Celebrate 85 Years of Batman! The Ultimate Tribute | LEGO Batman,”showcasing a variety of LEGO Batman minifigures. To enhance the celebration, LEGO also launched the LEGO BrickHeadz Limited Edition Batman 85th Anniversary (40726).
DC x Sonic Partnership Teaser on Batman Day Suggests Possible Future Collaboration
On the same day, DC published the same teaser on their YouTube channel titled “DC x Sonic Partnership Teaser.”This hints at a potential future collaboration where Shadow and Batman might interact.
The third installment of the Sonic the Hedgehog series is scheduled for theatrical release on December 3, 2024, featuring notable voice talents like Keanu Reeves, Jim Carrey, and Veb Schwartz. Tyson Hesse, who illustrated the DC x Sega crossover on Batman Day, also serves as a co-producer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
With both companies expanding their worlds, many fans are eager to see the Sonic and DC universes cross paths. Ultimately, DC included the teaser caption:
