Venom 3 Possibly Introduces New Villain for Spider-Man 4

Venom 3 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated films for 2024. With the release of the final trailer for Venom: The Last Dance, excitement has surged significantly, particularly due to the introduction of Knull. While it remains uncertain how prominently Knull will feature in the movie, his introduction could lead to potential developments in Spider-Man 4. There are theories suggesting that Knull may serve as the primary antagonist in the forthcoming Spider-Man film, but what evidence is there to support this? Let’s delve into the details.

Knull made his first appearance in 2018 within Venom Vol. 4 #3, introduced as the “King in Black,” a cosmic entity tasked with balancing the Beyonders in the universe. However, he defied this responsibility and engaged in warfare against the Celestials in a bid to extinguish the very concept of light. Rather than fulfilling his duty of safeguarding the multiverse, Knull sought to return the universe to the darkness from which he was birthed.

He crafted the first Symbiote through his weapon, the Necrosword. However, after it was stolen, Knull formed an army of Symbiote dragons, unleashing them across worlds to spread his darkness. When he attempted to invade Earth, Thor confronted him, resulting in the destruction of one of Knull’s dragons, which subsequently fragmented into individual symbiotes, leading to the creation of Klyntar. Ultimately, Klyntar rebelled against Knull, and he was trapped in a dormant state on the Klyntar homeworld for millennia.

With Knull’s appearance in Venom 3 confirmed, it’s unlikely that his role will be merely a one-time event. This film is intended to conclude Sony’s standalone Venom franchise, which comprises two prior films. However, there’s no assurance this storyline will be the last for Venom and Eddie. Knull’s introduction opens the possibility that the organization pursuing Venom and Eddie is linked to the Cult of Knull as seen in the King in Black comic series.

The trailers for Venom 3 depict not only Venom but also numerous Symbiotes held captive. The final trailer for Venom: The Last Dance showcases scenes of many Symbiotes crashing onto Earth. In the King in Black storyline, Knull is resurrected by the Cult of Knull and asserts control over the Symbiotes on Earth to conquer the planet. The trailer suggests that “These Symbiotes did not simply crash here; they were sent to Earth,” hinting at a storyline setup.

As the standalone Venom saga reaches its conclusion, it opens the door for a crossover into the larger Marvel universe. This paves the way for Knull to emerge as the primary antagonist in Spider-Man 4. But how might this play out? Let’s explore the evidence surrounding this possibility.

Spider-Man 4 is currently in pre-production, with casting and scriptwriting fully underway. Initially, there were delays stemming from discussions on whether this installment should involve multiversal concepts. However, it has now been confirmed that Spider-Man 4 will explore multiversal themes.

This suggests that Spider-Man 4 could feature a crossover linked to the aftermath of Venom 3. From the outset of the first Venom movie, various hints have pointed to a connection between Sony’s Venom franchise and the main continuity of the MCU, particularly with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. The post-credits scene in Venom: Let There Be Carnage depicted Eddie Brock and Venom getting teleported into the MCU, with Venom fixating on Spider-Man on television, displaying immediate animosity.

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, we also saw a fragment of the Venom symbiote left in the MCU timeline, which was confirmed captured in the first trailer for Venom 3. This piece could be claimed by Knull, prompting him to launch an assault on Earth in Spider-Man 4. The comic storyline involved Knull killing Eddie, with Eddie’s son, Dylan Brock, assuming the Venom mantle, only to bring Eddie back. For Spider-Man 4, we could witness Peter obtaining his Symbiote suit and enacting a similar plotline.

Considering the current trajectory, Spider-Man 4 is not set to release until 2027, likely after Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. This gives Marvel ample time to cultivate Knull as a formidable antagonist for Spider-Man 4. Therefore, let’s stay tuned for updates as Marvel’s plans unfold!
