Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Achieves 6 Million Sales Milestone in Japan

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has achieved an astonishing sales record, especially for a game that merely serves as an expanded remaster. Even late in the lifecycle of the Nintendo Switch, this kart racer continues to show remarkable performance in sales, recently reaching another significant milestone.

According to newly released data from Famitsu, which tracks weekly physical software sales in Japan, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has once again secured a top spot among the best-selling games in the country. This week, it ranked No. 2 in the software charts, with over 7,000 units sold. Notably, the game’s lifetime sales in Japan have now exceeded a remarkable 6 million units, totaling 6,005,594 units.

Remarkably, despite these impressive figures, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is not the top-selling Nintendo Switch title in Japan. The title for that honor is held by Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which has sold over 7.9 million units in Japan and is rapidly approaching the 8 million mark. Behind Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which has recorded over 5.5 million units sold in the region.

It’s important to mention that the sales figures discussed here reflect only physical sales, which tend to make up a larger proportion in Japan compared to many other regions. Nevertheless, the statistics shared do not capture the complete scope of the games’ overall sales.

As of June 30, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has achieved global sales of 62.9 million units.
