How Did Agatha Discover the Truth About Teen?

How Did Agatha Discover the Truth About Teen?

The conclusion of episode 5, titled “Darkest Hour / Wake Thy Power,” of Agatha All Along was truly remarkable. The characters found themselves ensnared in a scenario reminiscent of an 80s horror film as they tried to escape the clutches of the Salem Seven. However, the plot took a darker turn, leading to a monumental character revelation.

**Warning: Spoilers for Agatha All Along**

Throughout the fifth episode, the witches’ coven engages in a trial to determine Agatha’s fate (played by Kathryn Hahn). The crux of the trial centers on the decision to “punish”her. Agatha’s mother returns to haunt her during this process. Jen (Sasheer Zamata) assumes the trial will result in them needing to abandon Agatha, but when Alice (Ali Ahn) steps in to assist, the situation escalates, ultimately leading to her demise.

Alice attempts to use her powers to thwart Agatha’s mother, but this backfires, allowing Agatha to turn the tables and absorb Alice’s abilities. The coven flees, but the conflict shifts focus: it is Teen (Joe Locke) who confronts Agatha with outrage. During the trial, it seems Agatha finally comes to the realization of who her “Pet” truly is, culminating in a significant reveal during the episode’s closing moments.

Did Agatha realize when he mentioned “Nicholas Scratch”?

A widespread theory circulating online suggests that Agatha recognized immediately that Teen was not her son the instant he uttered “Nicholas Scratch” during the trial. It is theorized that a sigil marked him, preventing him from stating his real name in her presence. This led many to believe that he might actually be Billy (although it’s still unclear whether he is Kaplan or Maximoff).

Interestingly, Teen was able to speak the name “Nicholas Scratch” without issue when the Ouija board revealed it. This raises the question: was this moment what finally indicated to Agatha that her presumed “pet” wasn’t the child she thought she had lost? Rio (Aubrey Plaza) previously hinted that the boy wasn’t hers, yet Agatha seemed to cling to hope until a significant clue emerged.

I believe the mention of “Nicholas Scratch” was pivotal in Agatha’s realization about Teen’s true identity. Although his name wasn’t directly mentioned, Agatha managed to draw a solid connection to his lineage.

As they exit the trial, Agatha faces off with Teen, who confronts her, prompting Agatha to remark, “You are so much like your mother.” True to her observation, Teen subsequently exerts mind control over Lilia and Jen, effectively subduing Agatha. This mother-son mind control dynamic is truly captivating!

The implication here is that Teen is indeed Billy Maximoff. Comic book fans recognize that Wanda’s twins eventually appear within the Young Avengers, with Billy’s full name being Billy Kaplan. Kaplan embodies the living reincarnation of Billy Maximoff, and along with his twin Tommy Shepherd (alias Speed), they play significant roles in the new generation of superheroes. Billy, who takes on the superhero persona Wiccan, possesses abilities that closely align with those of his mother.

Agatha’s comparison indicates that not only do they share fundamental personality traits—both are caring and nurturing but can also exhibit an explosive temper—they also possess similar powers. What was particularly revealing was how Billy was showcased in the fifth episode’s finale.

Behold him in a crown

As if we needed any further confirmation of Teen being Wiccan, we see him donning the same crown that Wanda Maximoff wore at the conclusion of WandaVision. Crafted from her chaos magic, the diadem mirrors the color spectrum of Wanda’s powers, suggesting that Wiccan may indeed share this magical lineage.

We witness him adorned with the same headpiece his mother previously wore while Billie Eilish’s song “You Should See Me in a Crown” plays during one of the most memorable needle drops in recent Marvel history. It was a delight! Currently, we know little else about Teen’s character, so let the speculation surrounding Wiccan begin!
