Release Date of Morpeko in Pokémon GO: When to Expect It?

Niantic has officially revealed the initial segment of this year’s Halloween festivities in Pokémon GO. Kicking off the event, trainers will have the chance to encounter Morpeko, a beloved rodent reminiscent of Pikachu that originates from the Galar region, which is central to the current Max Out season.

As with previous games in the series, Morpeko will exhibit both of its distinctive forms in Pokémon GO. However, players should be aware that these forms are not considered separate Pokémon, contrary to what some might have thought. Trainers can start capturing this new addition as the Halloween celebration begins on October 22, 2024.

Players can find Morpeko by winning battles in Pokémon GO’s Battle League. Fortunately, there will be numerous opportunities to catch this character outside of competitive matches during the Halloween event, with the easiest method being through themed field research tasks.

The timed research will include tasks that offer encounters with Morpeko as a reward. Additionally, a paid research ticket priced at $5 USD will be on offer, which provides trainers with further opportunities to encounter Morpeko. This ticket will also feature chances to meet costumed Pokémon and grants avatars a Morpeko onesie.

Sadly for those hunting for shiny variants, Morpeko’s shiny form will not be available when it debuts in Niantic’s game. Players will have to wait for a future date to see shiny Morpeko, as no specific timeframe has been provided by the developers.

How Effective Will Morpeko Be in Pokémon GO PvP?

One of Morpeko’s key features is its ability to transform between forms during battles against other players and NPCs.

Morpeko switches from its Full Belly to Hangry state each time it executes a charged attack. This ability synergizes with its distinctive charged move, Aura Wheel, which inflicts either Dark- or Electric-type damage, depending on its current mode.

This versatility allows Morpeko to effectively have an extra charged move at its disposal. However, it remains to be seen if this will grant sufficient impact in PvP matches, as both a strong moveset and solid stats are crucial for viability.

Considering Morpeko’s defense and HP values are the same as depicted in the main series, it’s reasonable to predict these will hold true in the mobile version. It’s likely that its highest attribute will be attack.

Unfortunately, glass cannons tend to struggle in the Great League, which is where Morpeko will likely be positioned due to its low battle rating. With numerous Ground-type Pokémon prevalent in the Great League, Morpeko may face significant challenges.
