After nearly two years since it was officially announced, fans can mark their calendars for the release of the SK8 the Infinity OVA. The announcement first came in August 2022, revealing plans not only for this standalone installment but also for a future second season. The SK8 the Infinity EXTRA PART will hit select theaters across Japan on January 24, 2025, with a physical edition of the 25-minute OVA scheduled for release on March 19.

A captivating new key visual has been shared alongside the promotional commercial. However, no further information regarding the anticipated second season of SK8 the Infinity has been disclosed at this time.

What’s Inside the We8 the Infinity EXTRA PART?

Featuring Four Unique Short Stories

The forthcoming OVA of SK8 the Infinity will consist of four individual short stories, highlighting various characters from the beloved series:

“Ame to Neko Konbini Aisu Soda Aji” (Rain and Cat Convenience Store Ice Soda Flavor), showcasing Reki, Langa, and Miya.
“Ganbare, Hiromi-chan!”(Do Your Best, Hiromi-chan!), which focuses on Shadow.
“Maji de Maji ni Nareru Koto”(Things You Can Seriously, Seriously Do), featuring Joe and Cherry.
“Morning Routine,”centered on Adam and Tadashi.

The production will be helmed by the team at Studio Bones, bringing back significant staff from the first season including director and series creator Hiroko Utsumi (also known for BUCCHIGIRI!?), with series composition by Ichirō Ōkōchi (notable for the script of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection). The character design will be handled by Michinori Chiba (who worked on Basilisk), with Yumiko Kondō as the art director (known for Bungō Stray Dogs), and Masataka Ikegami handling photography direction. The OVA will also have contributions from Yōta Andō as the 3D director and seasoned sound director Masafumi Mima. Additionally, first-time scriptwriter Sei Tsuguta joins the team, alongside Tsukasa Kondō (responsible for the Japanese script of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off). The voice cast will include Chiaki Kobayashi as Langa Hasegawa, Tasuku Hatanaka as Reki Kyan, Hikaru Midorikawa as Kaoru “Cherry Blossom”Sakurayashiki, and others.

SK8 the Infinity intricately explores the lives of skateboarder Reki and snowboarding ace Langa as they dive into the thrilling yet perilous world of competitive skateboarding, with the exhilarating downhill race, known as “S,”as a focal point. The initial season aired for 12 episodes from January to April 2021, streaming on Crunchyroll during its run. Additionally, a manga adaptation launched on the Young Ace Up manga platform in January 2021. Currently, there has been no confirmed broadcast date for the second season of SK8 the Infinity.
