She was found to have fetal tissue in her uterus, leading to an infection and was diagnosed with “acute severe sepsis.” Despite the urgency, medical staff hesitated for over 17 hours to perform a dilatation and curettage (D&C) due to concerns over potential legal repercussions related to the anti-abortion laws. Tragically, during this delay, Thurman lost her life. Her death was labeled as preventable, had the medical procedure been carried out in time, highlighting the dire consequences of harsh abortion regulations. When Trump learned that Thurman’s family was holding a press conference to advocate for awareness regarding her death, he offered an ultimately insensitive remark.
