Donald Trump Assures He Isn’t ‘Unhinged’ Despite Claims of ‘More Dangerous’ Individuals

Many of us can take a collective breath; Donald Trump insists he is not actually mentally unsteady. This assertion comes as he counters his rival’s accusations branding him as “unhinged” following his controversial remarks labeling his political rivals as the “enemy from within.” So, who does he refer to when he mentions these alleged adversaries?

On Monday evening, Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate and current Vice President, held a rally in Pennsylvania, a pivotal swing state. During this event, she overtly criticized Trump’s mental stability, asserting that he appears “increasingly unstable and unhinged.” Medical experts have also questioned Trump’s mental state. At the rally, Harris showcased footage of Trump asserting that “the worst people are the enemies from within,” and stated that “those individuals pose a greater threat – the enemy from within – than Russia and China.” Following the playback of these clips, Harris remarked to the assembled crowd,

“These are his words. He refers to the ‘enemy from within’ Pennsylvania… He implies that anyone who does not support him or who resists his will is considered an enemy of our nation.”

Such inflammatory language fosters a climate where Trump’s supporters perceive any opposition or disagreement with his views as a direct threat to their security and way of life. In a discussion with Trump on Fox News, Maria Bartiromo posed a question about whether there should be apprehension regarding potential violence from terrorists, murderers, rapists, and even Chinese nationals (which seems an odd focus). This inquiry arose after the government announced the prevention of a suspected Election Day terror attack involving an Afghan national.

More unsettling than the framing of the question—why highlight Chinese nationals instead of the far-right extremists who had previously executed an attack—was Trump’s reply. “I consider the enemy from within to be a more significant concern than those who are actively damaging our country… I don’t see them as a primary issue on Election Day. The real threat lies with those within our ranks: very bad and sick individuals – radical left lunatics,” he asserted.

Trump has proposed that the situation could be managed effectively, if necessary, by deploying the National Guard or even military intervention. He downplays any dangers posed by his own supporters, who previously instigated an insurrection at the Capitol, jeopardizing the safety of lawmakers and law enforcement personnel.
