Fans are buzzing with anticipation for more of Spider-Man after the conclusion of Tom Holland’s immensely popular Home trilogy. A recent insider report indicates that Holland and his beloved character may have another project in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to undertake before diving into a fourth solo installment.

The Spider-Man series has achieved monumental success through its live-action films, beginning with the Raimi trilogy in the early 2000s and followed by a reboot in the early 2010s. Holland’s portrayal revitalized the franchise with the acclaimed Home trilogy, which not only garnered positive reviews but also culminated in a historic crossover featuring all three live-action Spider-Men. The final installment, Spider-Man: No Way Home, was so successful it enjoyed a re-release in theaters. Following this feat, Marvel Studios quickly set its sights on future ventures.

Even with the triumphant conclusion of No Way Home, plans for Spider-Man 4 are actively in motion, with a well-known MCU director attached to the project. However, new information suggests that this eagerly awaited film may not take precedence for Holland. Noted source Daniel Richtman recently shared on his Patreon that Holland will be filming scenes for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday before beginning his work on Spider-Man 4. Richtman has hinted that Holland’s role in the next Avengers narrative will be considerably more substantial than the smaller part he had during the Infinity Saga.

At present, it’s believed that both Spider-Man 4 and Avengers 5 are slated to begin production in the second quarter of 2025. The Avengers filming is set to kick off in May, followed by Spider-Man’s production shortly thereafter. Richtman suggests that Holland will concentrate on the Avengers film for at least a month before diverting his focus to his personal project. Since both films are undergoing production in the UK, transitions between the two should not be overly challenging for Holland, allowing him to handle reshoots and group scenes effectively. Given that Spider-Man is just one character in a broad ensemble for Avengers: Doomsday, the shooting schedule will undoubtedly be intricate and demanding.

It is uncertain if the forthcoming Avengers projects can avoid the pitfalls experienced by other multiverse films that Spider-Man: No Way Home successfully navigated. Despite the underlying confusion, there is comfort in knowing that seasoned stars like Holland are set to be heavily involved in these principal films. However, the timeline for filming raises questions. Having Holland start filming now implies a near-finished script, especially in light of Jonathan Majors no longer playing a central antagonistic role following the developments in his legal battles. The necessary shifts in the project might have been considerable since its previous title, The Kang Dynasty, and the timeline could benefit from being more flexible.

From an outsider’s perspective, the next Avengers film should avoid trying to outdo Endgame, but with the stakes of box office revenue and prestige in play, Marvel Studios may not opt for the deliberate pacing that laid the groundwork for Infinity War and Endgame. Given reports of Robert Downey Jr. demanding exorbitant fees for appearances and other cast members receiving significant payments, there is evident motivation for the studio to create a blockbuster event instead of crafting a deep narrative that may not resonate for another four years.

The Spider-Man: Home trilogy is currently available for streaming on Netflix, with Avengers: Doomsday expected to hit theaters in May 2026.
