“Made the Right Adjustments” — Captain Jason Discusses Below Deck Mediterranean Drama

In the latest installment of Below Deck Mediterranean season 9, which premiered on June 3, 2024, the crew encountered various challenges, including time management issues and unpredictable weather. However, Captain Sandy and her team effectively utilized their resources to navigate these obstacles. Captain Jason Chambers from Below Deck Down Under shared in a September 14, 2024 interview with US Weekly that he watched season 9 as a fan. He expressed enjoyment watching fellow captains Glenn, Kerry, and Fraser Olender, but it was Aesha Scott who truly captivated his attention throughout each episode.

Regarding the various issues the crew faced this season, from kitchen chaos to laundry setbacks, Jason noted that they made the “right adjustments”to tackle these challenges. Specifically, he highlighted Chef Jonathan‘s improvements in kitchen operations following “one or two charters.”

“One charter or two charters in, you just get up and get into it and then adjust afterwards. They made the right adjustment,” he stated.

Captain Jason Discusses Challenges Faced by the Below Deck Mediterranean Crew

Throughout season 9 of Below Deck Mediterranean, Captain Sandy struggled to pinpoint the reasons behind her team members’ distractions. In contrast, Aesha Scott made a concerted effort not to let crew drama interfere with the guests’ experience aboard the yacht.

While Chef Jonathan initially struggled to serve meals punctually, he eventually adapted by preparing dishes earlier rather than staying up late. Jason praised Jonathan as a competent chef who experienced “some low periods”but learned from his missteps. He elaborated:

“I saw in later episodes that he was prepping some meals prior to going to bed so he made the adjustments; he seems like a good chef that way. He’s had some low periods but has learned to rise up to the event.”

Jason also commented on the Below Deck Mediterranean drama surrounding Captain Kerry’s routine cabin inspections.

“It’s a monthly thing that has to be done. It’s a requirement from the official logbook. You have to just do a quick cabin check. The captain doesn’t have to do it but the first officer or someone has to do it,” Jason explained.

As the interview concluded, Jason emphasized the immense responsibility that comes with being a captain. With filming time being limited, there is often “much time”to observe individual crew development. This necessitates hiring new personnel and assembling a more effective team when needed. He remarked:

“We come to the boat and we don’t know the boat or the crew. We want to put that crew together and walk away with the best outcome…”

All seasons of Below Deck Mediterranean are available for streaming on Bravo as well as Peacock. The recently released Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 episode 16 premiered on September 16. Fans can follow Captain Jason on his official Instagram account for updates on his professional journey.
