Explained: Paul Rudd’s Return in Only Murders in the Building Season 4

Only Murders in the Building season 4 episode 4 showcased some exciting developments, most notably the return of Paul Rudd, who portrayed Ben Glenroy in the previous season. Rudd’s comeback adds an extra layer of humor to this standout episode.

As fans will recall, Paul Rudd’s character met his demise in season 3, which was central to the mystery. However, the series creatively found a way to reintroduce him. This time, Rudd is not reprising his role as Ben Glenroy; instead, he plays Glenn Stubbins, Ben’s stunt double.

Glenn Stubbins is characterized as an Irish stunt double struggling to find work following Ben’s death, leading him to assist the trio in their investigation in exchange for a promise of a role in the upcoming podcast adaptation.

This development hints that Paul Rudd will have a more significant presence in Only Murders in the Building season 4, which will be a fantastic addition to the impressive ensemble cast.

Will Paul Rudd Appear Throughout Season 4 of Only Murders in the Building?

The ageless Paul Rudd is back from the dead (again) in a new role, bringing an even funnier array of dialogues and antics. The pressing question now is whether this is just a brief cameo or if he will have a more extended presence.

According to the show’s Executive Producer, Paul Rudd is not finished with Only Murders in the Building season 4 yet. While it remains unclear if his character will have a recurring role for the remainder of the season, he is set to make additional appearances.

During a discussion about the episode with The Wrap, showrunner John Hoffman stated:

“I love Paul Rudd, and Paul Rudd loves being on the show. We’re doing a season centered around stunt doubles. Last season we had Ben Glenroy’s death, leading us to ponder, who was Ben Glenroy’s stunt double? It’s a logical thread to follow, especially with dopplegängers throughout the season.”

He added:

“It was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s how we bring him back!’ The parallels with Charles and Sazz felt sweet and fitting, providing a beautiful opportunity for Paul to return…and there’s much more to his character beyond this episode.”

This confirms that Rudd will have a more prominent role, suggesting Glenn Stubbins could become crucial to the storyline moving forward. If he appears in sufficient episodes this season, he might overshadow Ben Glenroy’s initial significance, providing plenty of comedic moments along the way.

Additionally, this time, Rudd joins a star-studded lineup, each playing pivotal roles in this season’s narrative.

The next episode of Only Murders in the Building season 4 will further the investigation involving Charles, Mabel, and Oliver while expanding the role of Hollywood cast and crew members within the storyline.

Mark your calendars for September 24, 2024, for the next episode and stay tuned for further updates.
