Delving into the Chilling Real-Life Story of Aaron Hernandez

Season 1 of this anthology series will focus on the remarkable rise and tragic decline of Aaron Hernandez, an American professional football player known for his time with the New England Patriots.

In 2013, the NFL world was shaken when Hernandez was arrested and charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional player who was dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancée. Following the arrest, the Patriots swiftly released Hernandez.

In 2015, he was sentenced to life imprisonment without the chance of parole at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center after being found guilty of first-degree murder. While being tried for Lloyd’s murder, Hernandez was also indicted for the double homicide of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado, which took place in 2012.

He was acquitted of the double homicide in 2017; however, just days post-acquittal, Hernandez was found dead in his cell, ruled a suicide.

American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez is not the first television production to explore this narrative. On January 15, 2020, Netflix premiered a three-part documentary entitled Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez, which tackles his story as well.
