Agatha All Along: Exploring if Goth Teen Wanda’s Son is Billy Maximoff

The first two episodes of Agatha All Along have premiered on Disney Plus, introducing viewers to key characters, including Joe Locke, known for his role in Heartstopper. In this series, he plays the mysterious Goth Teen, who comes to Agatha’s aid and liberates her from Wanda’s enchantment. There are various fan theories circulating online suggesting that Goth Teen could actually be Wanda’s son, Billy Maximoff. So, is there any truth to this speculation? Let’s explore further.

This marks Joe Locke’s debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and given the limited information revealed about the Goth Teen character in these initial episodes, we lack definitive answers regarding his identity. Nevertheless, fans are eager to believe he is Billy Maximoff, especially considering the Goth Teen’s fascination with the Witches’ Road after his encounter with Agatha Harkness—who was the guiding force for Wanda in Scarlet Witch #3. Additionally, Goth Teen references his deceased mother, leading fans to connect this hint to Wanda’s own tragic backstory.

By freeing Agatha from Wanda’s spells, Goth Teen may have ulterior motives; perhaps he seeks her guidance to traverse the Witches’ Road in order to achieve a deeply personal goal, which could involve reuniting with his mother. While other witches may chase power, the Goth Teen’s motivations could be centered around love and family.

At present, there’s no conclusive answer to this theory, but as Agatha All Along progresses, we may uncover more about this enigmatic character. Considering that WandaVision’s Billy was a mere figment of Wanda’s imagination, the possibility of him manifesting in Agatha All Along is certainly intriguing.

Why Is Goth Teen Unable to Speak His Name in Agatha All Along?

Agatha led a fictitious life in Westview for three years until the arrival of Goth Teen, who broke into her home and helped her rediscover her identity. This boy seems to possess profound knowledge about Agatha and is keen for her to guide him to the Witches’ Road.

Interestingly, whenever Goth Teen attempts to communicate his name to Agatha, his voice becomes muted or his mouth is concealed with mystical ink. This may suggest he is trapped under an enchantment that prohibits him from revealing his name. If he is indeed Billy Maximoff, this enchanted silence could be a narrative choice by the creators to keep his identity a secret until later in the series.

Who Is Billy Maximoff in the Marvel Comics?

In the Marvel comics, Billy is known as Billy Kaplan rather than taking the Maximoff surname. While the narratives of comic book character Billy Kaplan and TV character Billy Maximoff share similarities, there are distinctions. In the series, Wanda generates an anomaly that gives birth to Billy and his twin brother, Tommy. These characters existed solely within the Hex and aged at an accelerated rate, only to fade away when the Hex was dismantled. Wanda’s grief over her lost children ultimately drives her darker transformation in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

In the comic narrative, Wanda similarly uses her abilities to create the twins William and Thomas after marrying Vision, drawing their existence from two lost souls. Once Mephisto reclaims these souls, both the comic and television adaptations depict Wanda’s heart-wrenching loss.

Eventually, the souls of William and Thomas escape, and William’s essence is reborn as Billy Kaplan, son of Jeff and Rebecca Kaplan. Due to the ties between his soul and Wanda’s magic, Billy develops remarkable magical abilities and eventually becomes a member of the Young Avengers.
