Amy Adams’ Daughter’s Disappointment in Fairytale Film Despite 93% Rotten Tomatoes Rating During First Viewing

Amy Adams has built an impressive film career, showcasing her remarkable talent in a variety of highly acclaimed projects. Her latest endeavor, Nightbitch, has garnered significant attention, as she portrays a complex character—a weary mother and housewife who experiences vivid dog visions that both challenge and energize her. According to a review by ScreenRant, Adams strikes a “perfect balance between joyful liberation and the underlying fear that motherhood has changed her forever.”Her nuanced performance has already earned her a nomination for a Golden Globe in the category of Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy.

In many ways, Nightbitch marks a departure from the roles that Adams has traditionally taken on throughout her career. Unlike her more customary performances in conventional dramas, such as Julie & Julia, The Fighter, and Vice, this 2024 film delves into the realm of surrealist horror. Adams previously mesmerized audiences as a princess in a well-regarded 2007 film, but even that role is starkly different from the unique challenges presented in Nightbitch.

Interestingly, Adams shared that her daughter, Aviana, had an unexpected reaction towards the film Enchanted. Released in 2007 and directed by Kevin Lima, the film tells the whimsical story of an animated princess, Giselle, who leaps from her fairy tale world into the bustling streets of New York City. As Giselle navigates this new reality, she becomes entwined with a city lawyer while her prince in pursuit follows her into this strange new world. The film boasted a talented ensemble cast, featuring notable actors such as Susan Sarandon, James Marsden, Patrick Dempsey, Timothy Spall, and the legendary Julie Andrews.

During a conversation with Vanity Fair, Adams recounted Aviana’s first experience watching Enchanted. The little girl stumbled upon it accidentally while watching TV during a hotel stay. Adams described Aviana’s reaction as “incredulous,”noting that her daughter wasn’t overwhelmed by the movie. Memorable among her remarks was a cheeky question regarding Adams’ attire in the film: “Why are you on the TV wearing a silly white dress?”

Aviana saw Enchanted. Her response to that is, “Why are you on the TV wearing a silly white dress?” But she enjoyed it. The first time she saw it, it was on accident. We were in a hotel and she had woken up really early and I turned on the TV and it was on, and I was like, “okay, let’s see what happens.” And she was kind of incredulous, and she wasn’t impressed.

Garnering an impressive 93% approval rating on the Tomatometer from Rotten Tomatoes critics and an 80% approval rating from general audiences, the film also performed remarkably well at the box office, amassing $340.4 million globally against a production budget of approximately $85 million. While Aviana may represent a small minority of initial naysayers, Enchanted has undoubtedly proven its worth over time, endearing itself to many fans around the world.
