“And He Chose Right” — Internet Reacts as Super Bowl Halftime Show Producer Confirms Jay-Z Selects Annual Headliners

Just a few days after Kendrick Lamar was officially named as the performer for the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show, it was revealed that Jay-Z is the key decision-maker behind the lineup each year. In an interview with Variety, published on September 16, 2024, Jesse Collins, the executive producer of the show, stated:

“It’s a decision that Jay makes. Since we’ve been on board with that show, he’s made it every year, and it’s been amazing. He’s always picked right!”

Following Collins’ comments, a lively discussion erupted on social media. Many users reacted to a post by X user, @BuzzingPop, emphasizing that Jay-Z consistently “chose right.”

“And he chose right.”

Supporters of Jay-Z’s choices joined in, expressing their opinions:

“If Jay picked Wayne and he put on an awful show, Jay would get blamed and lose credibility. It shouldn’t be surprising that he chose someone who’s more reliable,” one user noted.

“I mean we all knew this,” another user commented.

“HE’S ALWAYS PICKED RIGHT! And he did it again this year. THEY NOT LIKE US!” one person expressed.

Conversely, some critics voiced their disagreement, declaring that they were not in favor of Jay-Z’s decision.

“He failed this year,” one X user remarked.

“We already knew this. That nasty man will get his time,” another netizen commented.

“Oh brother. This conversation is about to go on for another two weeks,” another user predicted.

“We’re going to do an amazing show” — Producer Discusses Lamar’s Halftime Performance in New Orleans

Kendrick Lamar’s announcement as the headliner for the Super Bowl halftime show stirred controversy, especially with Lil Wayne being notably absent from the lineup. The rapper shared his feelings of disappointment in an Instagram video posted on September 13, 2024, stating that the decision “hurt a lot,” as he had been anticipating a performance during the big game.

Furthermore, Super Bowl show producer Jesse Collins commented on the situation, revealing that Lil Wayne was initially expected to headline in Super Bowl 2025. However, Kendrick Lamar’s name was recently announced as the star performer. Collins expressed:

“We love Wayne. There’s always Vegas odds on who’s going to get to perform it. But I think we’re going to do an amazing show with Kendrick, and I think everybody’s going to love the halftime show. I know Kendrick is going to work exceptionally hard to deliver an amazing show.”

For those unfamiliar, Super Bowl LIX is set to occur on February 9, 2025, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The National Football League, Roc Nation, and Apple Music announced Kendrick Lamar as the halftime performer on September 8, 2024.

In addition, some sources suggested that Jay-Z selected Lamar as the headliner due in part to an ongoing rivalry with Drake, although neither Roc Nation nor Jay-Z has confirmed this narrative.
