Apex Legends Players Call Longbow a “Dead” Weapon: “Little Reason to Use It”

The Longbow’s current performance in Apex Legends has led to player dissatisfaction, particularly when compared to other long-range options like the Triple Take and Sentinel. Many users on the r/apexlegends subreddit voiced their opinions, expressing that they feel the Longbow is ineffective and essentially a “dead”weapon in the current gameplay landscape.

Is the Longbow officially dead? Why would someone use it over the Triple or Sentinel? by u/Hi_Im_zack in apexlegends

A user known as u/Beginning_Calendar56 pointed out that even Marksman Rifles such as the G7 Scout and 30-30 Repeater outperform the Longbow, which is supposed to be a high-damage Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR).

“I’d say even marksman rifles like the Scout and 30-30 feel much better than the Longbow.”

Another member of the subreddit, u/lettuce_field_theory, remarked that although buffs were expected for the Longbow, its potential was significantly diminished by the removal of the Skullpiercer attachment, which he believed was a grave mistake. This alteration negatively impacted its effectiveness compared to the Sentinel.

According to u/Feisty-Clue3482, the Longbow lacks important attributes that are essential for a reliable sniper rifle in a battle royale environment like Apex Legends. They highlighted its excessive bullet drop, slow firing speed, and problematic recoil as reasons that hinder its usability.

“Yeah, it’s pointless… annoying but pointless. Hits too weak to be considered a good sniper and has too harsh of a drop; not to mention its slow fire rate. I try to use it but it feels terrible due to its heavy drop and unpredictable recoil. It definitely needs some improvements, but Respawn seems to only nerf weapons instead of balancing them, so I have my doubts. I think pros complained about it at some point, so it’s unlikely it’ll ever be good again.”

Though the Longbow is designed to deliver high damage, the recent adjustments and the removal of the Skullpiercer have significantly downgraded its damage output. Commenting on the ineffectiveness of the weapon, u/Traveller-Entity-16 stated that its reduced damage per shot makes it inferior to other sniper and marksman weapons:

“The lack of damage per shot completely undermines it, making other snipers or marksman rifles far superior. I can’t think of anyone I know who would choose the Longbow over a Triple Take, and if you’re searching for a proper sniper, the Sentinel is the obvious choice; it’s significantly better.”

Lastly, player u/TrippySubie mentioned that the Longbow has been ineffective since its early game days, labeling the weapon as “dead” just a month after the initial launch.

What Makes the Longbow Non-Competitive in Apex Legends?

In Season 21 of Apex Legends, the Longbow underwent considerable adjustments that substantially affected its viability. The removal of both the Skullpiercer and Barrel Stabilizer attachments greatly reduced its damage potential and overall usability. Currently, it is outclassed by weapons like the Triple Take and Sentinel, which offer much higher reliability in combat situations. Even in one-on-one confrontations, players find it easier to deal with a Longbow due to its diminished damage output.
