Andrew Wilson Details Ambitions for the Future of Apex Legends
The 22nd season of Apex Legends brought forth numerous updates, including the implementation of new anti-cheat software, additional game modes, and a revamped map. The Battle Pass structure has also been reworked, introducing two new paid tiers: Ultimate and Ultimate+.
Despite these changes, the adjustments to the Apex Legends Battle Pass received mixed reviews from players. Furthermore, CEO Andrew Wilson pointed out that the modifications did not yield the expected results for monetization, according to the publisher’s standards.
Consequently, Wilson announced that enhancements will be made to the entire monetization framework of the game. Acknowledging Apex Legends’ status as an iconic title with a dedicated player community, he emphasized that EA is committed to aligning its initiatives with the expectations of players worldwide.
In a recent interview with Variety, he elaborated on his vision, stating:
“In today’s competitive environment, where brand loyalty, a solid core player base, and top-notch mechanics are paramount, Apex has demonstrated its value as a significant franchise for us and a mainstay in the industry. Additionally, to foster substantial growth and re-engagement, comprehensive systemic changes are essential. Our focus will remain on player retention and content diversity to support our global community as we advance toward more groundbreaking innovations.”
Although Electronic Arts has yet to disclose the specific nature of these impending changes, Chief Financial Officer Stuart Canfield has indicated that the company aims to enhance player retention and engagement, and will strategically plan the game’s future based on these objectives.
