Gust is launching an exciting new chapter in the Atelier series with Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories and the Envisioned Land, and it’s already generating a lot of buzz. In a recent deep dive video, producer Junzo Hosoi explores the innovative new systems in this RPG and highlights how it is progressing from previous installments for the better.
Set against the backdrop of the ruined Aladissian Empire, Atelier Yumia follows the main character as she delves into the mystery of her mother’s death. Although alchemy is prohibited, she skillfully uses it in various ways, tackling challenges with magical boots and crafting essential items. Perhaps the most significant shift is the transformation of combat from turn-based to real-time.
As Hosoi mentions, this transition allows players to survive using evasive tactics, even when their health hits 1 HP. Furthermore, players can perform team-up attacks with fellow party members to inflict greater damage. An open-world environment is also a noteworthy feature, drawing inspiration from Halo: Combat Evolved, which was Hosoi’s first encounter with an open-world FPS.
Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories and the Envisioned Land is set to release on March 21st. It will be available on multiple platforms including Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
