Aubrey O’Day, the former member of the girl group Danity Kane, expressed that she feels “validated”following the arrest of her former boss, Sean “Diddy”Combs, on charges related to s*x trafficking, racketeering, and prostitution. Combs, a prominent music mogul, was taken into federal custody in New York on Monday. His arrest elicited responses from various artists, including O’Day, who has long accused him of mistreatment.
Upon Diddy’s arrest, Aubrey O’Day shared her thoughts on X (formerly Twitter):
“The purpose of justice is to provide an ending and allow us the space to create a new chapter. Women never get this. I feel validated. Today is a win for women all over the world, not just me. Things are finally changing.”
Aubrey O’Day’s History with Combs
Aubrey O’Day’s conflicts with Diddy began during her tenure in Danity Kane, a girl group he formed from the MTV reality series Making the Band 3. O’Day was part of Danity Kane from 2006 to 2008, a period in which the group was signed to Bad Boy Records, under Diddy’s leadership.
In a 2019 interview with Variety, O’Day characterized her experience working with Combs (also known as Puff) as “intense”and “scary”. She recounted:
“We were scared to death with what would happen with Puff each day. There was just no room for error. Diddy was one of the most intense people you could ever work with. I experienced everything from racial remarks to sexism and a lot of it was scary.”
Diddy’s recent arrest follows federal raids on his properties in Miami and Los Angeles earlier this year. According to court documents, he faces multiple charges including racketeering conspiracy, s*x trafficking by force, fraud, coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution. The allegations suggest that these criminal activities have been carried out for decades, according to prosecutors.
As per the prosecutors’ office, Diddy allegedly exploited women around him to satisfy his desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his wrongdoing. He is accused of forming a criminal organization to facilitate s*x trafficking, coercion, forced labor, kidnapping, and other offenses.
In light of the arrest, attorney Marc Agnifilo, representing Diddy, expressed disappointment over what he deemed an unjust prosecution of his client. Agnifilo portrayed Combs as a ‘music icon’ and a ‘family man’. He noted that Combs has been fully cooperating with investigators and urged the public not to rush to judgment, stating:
“These are the acts of an innocent man with nothing to hide, and he looks forward to clearing his name in court.”
The allegations against Diddy arise amidst growing scrutiny over his actions. In November 2023, his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, accused him of r*pe and physical violence, a case that was settled quickly after being filed. Since then, numerous others have come forward with similar accusations against him.
For Aubrey O’Day, Diddy’s arrest seems to signify a long-awaited moment of validation after years of standing up against a powerful figure in the music industry.
