Black Ops 6 and Warzone have launched their first major update, bringing a wealth of new content to players. Whether engaging in the fast-paced fun of Multiplayer or the strategic battle in Warzone’s Battle Royale mode, gamers have much to explore. Among the various weapons available, the Maelstrom Shotgun stands out as a noteworthy choice.
Introduced in the Season 1 Reloaded update, the Maelstrom is the inaugural fully automatic shotgun in Black Ops 6. While its range may be limited, with the right configuration, it can deliver formidable firepower at close quarters.
How to Unlock the Maelstrom
To unlock the Maelstrom Shotgun, players need to participate in the Merry Mayhem Event, where the shotgun is a mastery reward. Specifically, players must earn 10 Merry Mayhem Event rewards through XP accumulation over the event duration. To obtain all rewards, players are required to gather 618,000 XP. Once completed, players can add the Maelstrom Shotgun to their weapon loadouts.
For those eager to claim the shotgun earlier, it is also available via the Bad Manners Store Bundle, which costs 1,800 COD Points. This package not only includes the shotgun but also an Operator Skin and the Party Etiquette Blueprint for the Maelstrom.
The Merry Mayhem Event is set to conclude on December 19. After this deadline, players will still have the chance to earn the base version of the Maelstrom Shotgun.
Best Maelstrom Loadout in Black Ops 6 & Warzone
Optimal Maelstrom Build:
- Full Choke (Muzzle)
- Reinforced Barrel (Barrel)
- Extended Mag II (Magazine)
- CQB Grip (Rear Grip)
- Rapid Fire (Fire Mods)
This loadout includes enhancements that improve close-quarters combat capabilities, such as streamlined slide-to-fire and dive-to-fire mechanics. An extended magazine combined with an increased fire rate greatly boosts the Maelstrom’s effectiveness, even if it isn’t currently the top-tier choice in Black Ops 6 and Warzone.
Best Black Ops 6 Perks & Wildcard

Choosing the right attachments is just one part of optimizing loadouts; the selection of Perks and Wildcards plays a vital role. The configuration suggested above leverages the Perk Greed Wildcard to permit the use of four Perks instead of the usual three, providing a distinct combat edge.
The recommended Perks greatly benefit close-range combat scenarios by promoting increased sprinting speed while reloading and quick weapon swap capabilities. Additionally, certain perks extend tactical sprint durations and allow players to scavenge ammunition from defeated opponents, ensuring they remain combat-ready.
Recommended Black Ops 6 Secondary
While the Maelstrom excels in close-range engagements, having a reliable secondary weapon is essential. This allows players to effectively respond when a quick reload isn’t feasible in high-stress situations. The Sirin 9mm and Grekhova are two compelling options, both delivering significant close-range firepower.
Best Warzone Perks & Wildcard
- Dexterity (Perk 1)
- Sprinter (Perk 2)
- Resolute (Perk 3)
- Overkill (Wildcard)
This Perk Package focuses on enhancing movement capabilities, granting players improved accuracy on the move and reduced fall damage, alongside an extended tactical sprint duration and swift movement under fire. This setup is ideal for players looking to rapidly close the gap on adversaries or maneuver effectively in heated engagements.
For the Wildcard selection, Overkill is a prime choice, enabling players to equip a second primary weapon upon acquiring their loadouts. Conversely, those interested in utilizing an eight-attachment Maelstrom build might prefer the Gunfighter Wildcard.
Recommended Warzone Secondary
Though the Maelstrom is formidable in close quarters, its performance at medium and long-range is limited. To ensure versatility, pairing the shotgun with a suitable Assault Rifle can cover distant threats effectively. Some of the current meta Assault Rifles for Season 1 include the GPR 91, XM4, Model L, and Krig C.
