Whoopi Goldberg is not about to let Joe Rogan spread misinformation regarding Donald Trump’s time on The View. In a recent interview with Trump on October 25, Rogan asserted that the women of The View had previously embraced Trump as “our friend”and only distanced themselves much later. However, that’s not how events unfolded, and Whoopi has evidence to back this up.
On October 28, she slammed Rogan’s statement as “fake news” and presented various clips and images that countered Rogan’s claims. For instance, while the podcaster stated that Trump appeared on The View in “2015 or 2016,” the actual date was 2011, which was well before Trump declared his presidential candidacy. But that was merely “the first mistake they made.”
Rogan and Trump suggested that upon his arrival, Trump was affectionately treated as a friend, with Goldberg supposedly giving him “a big hug and a kiss.” Goldberg firmly denied this and has concrete proof to support her stance. She showed footage from Trump’s appearance, where, although Barbara Walters introduced Trump as a friend, Goldberg appeared displeased about having to greet him. Although she performed the customary cheek kiss and shoulder clasp typically given to all guests, that was the extent of her warmth.
Goldberg explained, “Barbara remained her usual courteous self with every guest. But did I look welcoming? Was that a friendly reception for him? I show respect for Barbara, who always insists we treat guests politely, regardless of our feelings. I did my duty and maintained professionalism, just like I do today.”At that moment, Goldberg’s polite greeting was part of her role.
Goldberg pointed out another instance where Rogan “really messed up” regarding Trump’s interview. According to Rogan, the hosts of The View discussed Trump in a “favorable light,” which Goldberg vehemently refuted. She provided a clip of herself challenging Trump about his demands for Barack Obama’s birth certificate.
She remarked at the time, “That’s the biggest heap of nonsense I’ve heard in forever. Is this about him being Black? Because I’ve never seen a white president asked for their birth certificate. That’s just ridiculous.” Her statements were valid then and remain accurate now.
“This show has featured guests from all walks of life, both those I agree with and those I don’t,” Goldberg elaborated. “I’ve never been a supporter of this man; I disapprove of how he speaks to us and how he addresses the nation. I didn’t have many comments until he began his presidential campaign. But back in 2011… my expression said everything I needed to express.” It truly resonates with the sentiments many people share about Trump today.
Trump has made Whoopi a target for his usual barbs. During a rally on October 10, he criticized The View for having Kamala Harris as a guest, derogatorily calling Sunny Hostin “one dumb woman” and labeling Goldberg as “filthy, dirty, disgusting” because of her comedy. He remarked, “What a loser she is,” aiming his insults directly at Goldberg. She and her fellow co-hosts refused to take it quietly.
The following day after Trump’s statements, the women of The View made their entrance to Christina Aguilera’s “Dirrty,” and Goldberg didn’t hold back. “I stand by being filthy,” she declared. “You knew what you were getting when you hired me. I headlined at your casino, which I might have continued to perform at had you not driven it into the ground. How ignorant must you be to hire me four times and still not comprehend what you were getting into? How foolish are you?” While it’s commendable that Goldberg is addressing falsehoods and standing up to Trump and others, ideally, this shouldn’t be necessary. Let’s hope that post-election, she and the other hosts of The View can move on from Trump entirely.
