- The omnimovement mechanic in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has gained acceptance among players after initial controversy.
- Treyarch’s Associate Creative Director highlights the potential longevity of this mechanic within the Black Ops franchise.
- Upcoming Call of Duty games, especially those developed by Treyarch, are expected to retain omnimovement and introduce additional features, such as the Body Shield maneuver.
The development team behind Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which debuted on October 25 as the 21st entry in the celebrated series, has shared insights regarding the future of the omnimovement mechanic. This new mobility feature, which allows players to execute a variety of movements—including sprinting, sliding, and diving in any direction—initially sparked mixed reactions at launch but has since become popular among the gaming community. Players are now eager to know if this innovative movement style will persist in future installments of the franchise.
Despite maintaining many classic gameplay elements that fans have come to love, the introduction of omnimovement has fundamentally altered players’ strategies during combat. In a recent interview conducted by Dexerto, Matt Scronce, Associate Director of Design, alongside Miles Leslie, Treyarch’s Associate Creative Director, discussed the rationale behind these movement innovations. Leslie indicated that the team has strong confidence in the future of omnimovement, suggesting it was a core concept even during the early development phases.
“We haven’t seen the limits of its potential yet,”Miles Leslie stated, expressing excitement over the high-level plays that players are showcasing with this new mechanic.
Innovations Beyond Omnimovement
As Treyarch looks ahead, it is likely that future installments of Call of Duty will embrace omnimovement, particularly in games where they are involved in development. However, omnimovement is not the only notable addition to Black Ops 6. The Body Shield maneuver allows players to capture enemies and use them as shields while still being able to engage in combat. Although this tactic is seen as less revolutionary compared to omnimovement, it reflects the franchise’s ongoing commitment to gameplay innovation.
Moreover, Leslie hinted at the possibility of reviving older content, stating that a number of classic maps are slated for remastering. The team has already incorporated Hacienda from Black Ops 4, and Leslie assures fans that “no previous Black Ops title is off the table”when it comes to remakes, while reaffirming the commitment to producing original designs for the majority of new maps post-launch.
For those who have yet to experience the latest offerings, a limited-time free trial of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is available, allowing players to explore the Multiplayer and Zombies modes without any financial commitment.
