Ukitake’s Universe-Saving Effort Fails
The Near Creation of a New Soul King
Ukitake’s call for the Kamikake aimed at stabilizing the realms results in his self-sacrifice, relinquishing his life force to serve as a potential replacement for the Soul King. Meanwhile, Ichigo’s allies leap into action but are quickly obstructed by Yhwach’s Schutzstaffel forces. Yoruichi strategically places talismans to re-seal the Soul King, using the Right Arm of the Soul as a basis, while Ichigo heroically confronts Yhwach, defying the oppressive reiatsu that forces him to grip Yhwach’s sword and split the Soul King.
Ichigo and Yoruichi appear to be making progress, but Ichigo is stunned when Yoruichi is severely injured by an arrow aimed by Uryū. Though she manages to take refuge, her distraction compromises the fragile situation with the Soul King. The attempt to contain him fails, allowing Yhwach to position himself once more before the Soul King and resume his absorption, effectively countering Ichigo and his allies’ efforts. He commands Pernida Parnkgjas against Yoruichi, physically twisting her arm using his powers as the Left Arm of the Soul King, before forcefully sending her off the platform of the Soul King’s Palace, plummeting below.
An Epic Duel: Ichigo Kurosaki vs Uryū Ishida
The Anime-Exclusive Segment Steals the Show
Ichigo continues to attempt to thwart Yhwach’s absorption of the Soul King, but Uryū’s relentless arrows restrict his movements. As Yhwach progresses, Mimihagi’s dark shadow reemerges, distancing itself from the Soul King’s main form. The intense tremors triggered by Yhwach’s actions devastate the Soul King Palace. The visual effects in this episode stand out as some of the finest in BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3 thus far, elevating Uryū’s arrows to new heights in both appearance and dynamics.
The striking brilliance of Uryū’s arrows, accompanied by the sharp sounds of their release and deflection, enhances the cinematic experience of Ichigo and Uryū’s encounter. Uryū’s ultimatum is clear: Ikigo must eliminate him to confront Yhwach. Ichigo is heartbroken to learn that Uryū has consciously chosen betrayal, aligning himself with Yhwach’s ambitions. The visual contrast between four-pointed and five-pointed shapes symbolically represents the conflict between the Shinigami, who aim to preserve the current order of the realms, and the Quincies, symbolized by the five-pointed star.
While some of these illustrative motifs are subtle, they contribute to the arc’s intriguing journey, enhancing the series’ theatrical ambiance where every aspect of the visuals conveys substantial thematic weight and hidden references.
Minimal focus is devoted to the clashes between the other members of the Schutzstaffel and Ichigo’s companions; despite Orihime’s bold involvement and immediate contribution, the dynamic between Uryū and Ichigo rises to unparalleled heights, making it one of the most unforgettable moments in the series. Ichigo’s emotional turmoil over the betrayal, particularly struck by Uryū’s brutal assault at the episode’s conclusion, is intensely felt.
Post-Credits Scene
The Dawn of the Final Act
After Ichigo plummets from above, severely wounded, Uryū rejoins the other Quincies to witness Yhwach’s culmination of the Soul King’s absorption. He recites the final lines of the Kaiser Gesang as his Schutzstaffel brandishes reishi swords in celebration, and Yhwach breaks the crystal, unleashing the disfigured remains of Adnyeus from their prison. He proclaims his intent to absorb the entirety of the Soul King and return reality to its rightful form before vanishing in a blinding flash. Almost instantaneously, flashes of Yhwach’s newly transformed state emerge synchronously with his heartbeat, as a multitude of eyes open in unison, signifying the completion of his assimilation.
This anime-exclusive battle between Ichigo and Uryū serves as a delightful treat for long-time fans, finally revealing Uryū’s Quincy: Vollständig after an eight-year wait since the manga concluded. This episode undoubtedly stands out as exceptional.
