The pivotal quest, Nullify the Corruption, is crucial for progressing to the next narrative arc, leading towards the Mine of Mantuban.

This quest offers a range of activities, such as defeating challenging bosses, enhancing your professions, encountering magical beings, selecting factions, and collecting luminous items. Below is a comprehensive guide to assist you in overcoming the Nullify the Corruption quest in Brighter Shores.

Initiating the Nullify the Corruption Quest

Quest initiation in Brighter Shores

Before diving into the quest, ensure you fulfill the following prerequisites:

  • Locate Delana’s Bow during the Defend Hopeport quest.
  • Create a 10% Healing Potion in the Heal Captain Degreene quest.
  • Achieve a Hopeport Level of 60.
  • Complete the side quest The Obelisk.
  • Finish the Hide and Seek quest.

Upon entering Hopeforest and meeting Corporal Binns, you will be directed to locate fellow recruits. While searching, you will split from your companion, Jermais, and encounter a Mutant Stag attacking a Dryad in Dryad Glade. Interacting with the Dryad will officially commence the Nullify the Corruption quest.

Strategies to Defeat the Mutant Stag

Combat with the Mutant Stag

The Mutant Stag is a formidable Level 10 enemy, making it a tough opponent if you attempt to battle it at a lower Scout level. It is advisable to level up to at least Level 12 in your combat profession for a greater chance to defeat it. Focus on gaining experience by targeting enemies of the same level or lower; useful foes include Ragged Outlaws and Vagabond Goblins.

Additionally, enhancing your gear will be key to success. Enemies such as Vipers, Wendigos, Outlaws, and Goblins yield weapons and armor that vary from uncommon to rare, so prioritize defeating them to upgrade your equipment.

You’ll find an Obelisk situated within the Goblin Camp, allowing for an easy equipment reconfiguration without returning to Hopeport. Furthermore, make sure to activate the portal located in the Hopeforest Central Portal Stone area, which is particularly useful should you need to return after being injured.

Finding the Magic Cave

After successfully defeating the stag, the Dryad reveals that her assailant was under the influence of dark corruption and requests your aid. She provides a Dryad Leaf and hints towards finding a hidden location: head north where crows are seen, and look for orange irises—essentially, she guides you to the Magic Cave.

To locate the Magic Cave, travel east from Dryad Glade until you reach the North Central Path, then proceed north. At Stump Clearing, take the first left and continue heading west through Tangled Path and Tangled Lane. Keep an eye out for crows and orange flowers. After reaching Narrow Path, continue to Thin Trail. When you hit a dead end, use the Dryad Leaf from your Main Story board to unlock a cutscene that will reveal the Magic Cave.

To tackle the spreading dark magic, you need to cleanse the Giant Crystal at Crystal Clearing. There are two routes to reach it: one requiring a Woodcutter level of eight and the other—though less specified—demands a high Scout level, as you’ll encounter numerous Shades en route.

  • For the Woodcutter path, return to Stump Clearing, take the east trail to Stumped Path, continue eastward to the Shortpath (after breaking through the Brambles), and follow the route to Twisted Junction, Overgrown Trail, and finally to Crystal Clearing.
  • If you choose the Scout route, head north from Stump Clearing to Treeway Junction, turn right onto Treeway Trail, follow the Twisted Road, then head south to Twisted Junction and east to Overgrown Trail to arrive.

At Crystal Clearing, you will confront Jermais, who has succumbed to the dark magic influence and now poses a threat. As a level 12 boss, it’s advisable to operate a level ahead in the Scout profession for a smoother confrontation.

Healing the Giant Crystal

Once Jermais is defeated, the Dryad requests your assistance in healing the Giant Crystal fully. She reveals that the crystal absorbs and amplifies magic. Because it is saturated with corrupted magic, you’ll need to infuse it with pure magic to restore it properly. Thankfully, various magical sources are available in Hopeforest to assist in this process.

  • Glowing Beetles: Collect two from the Overgrown Trail and apply them to the Giant Crystal.
  • Glowing Mushroom: Found in the Mushroom Grove, south of the Bramble Path near Crystal Clearing.
  • Glowing Honey: Defeat the level 20 Giant Two-Headed Bear in the Two-Headed Bear Clearing to collect honey from the Glowing Bee Hive (using a jar is necessary).
  • Glowing Fern: Located beyond the Ferry Crossing River near Hopeforest Ferry. Eliminate the Mutant Newt to gather the fern.

Once you’ve gathered all required magical items, return to Crystal Clearing. Interact with the Giant Crystal and select the ‘Use items on‘ option to apply each glowing item individually. Once cleansed, the Dryad will inform you of even more corruption emanating from the Mine of Mantuban. Head in that direction, located southeast of Hopeforest, near the Barricades, and speak with the guard there. He will instruct you to gain permission from Captain Jal Degreene.

Communicating with the Barricades Guard will successfully conclude the Nullify the Corruption quest in Brighter Shores, unlocking the final quest. To proceed, teleport back to Hopeport, consult with Captain Degreene, and reach Hopeforest level 60 to obtain the required clearance.
