Cable, a character marked by a tumultuous existence, stands out in the realm of mutants. Created as an experiment by Mister Sinister, afflicted by a cybernetic virus, and thrust into a future rife with conflict, Cable has undergone a remarkable evolution. Recently, this time-traveling hero has encountered a setting where he feels a genuine sense of belonging among others like him. However, the threats in this war-torn reality could challenge his newfound happiness.
The new series Cable: Love & Chrome, written by David Pepose and illustrated by Mike Henderson, charts Cable’s latest mission. He aims to bolster the beleaguered city of Salvation Bay, a refuge battling for survival against dire odds. Following a disastrous mission that lands him in an unfamiliar time and place, Cable discovers the existence of a community afflicted by the Techno-Organic Virus.
Until this moment, Cable believed he was the sole survivor impacted by the virus throughout history. His journey leads him to cross paths with the tenacious Commander Avery Ryder, a fierce freedom fighter whose partnership with Cable sparks the possibility of romance.
Discovering Love and the Hope for a Cure
For Cable, the battle against the Techno-Organic Virus began before he was even born. After inadvertently introducing it to Apocalypse during one of his time-traveling missions, the villain infected infant Cable to ensure the continuity of the time-loop. Ever since, Cable has relied on his psychic abilities to forestall the virus’s progression. Despite his extensive travels and relentless combat efforts, he has yet to discover a definitive cure for his affliction. However, this latest timeline introduces him to others impacted by the virus, pivoting his struggle from a battle for survival to a mission aimed at saving others.
Initially beset by overwhelming emotions, Cable finds solace in the bustling community of Salvation Bay, where thousands share his plight. The local leader, Avery Ryder, shapes this community into a potential sanctuary for the hero. With her own arm infected, an impressive arsenal of advanced weaponry, and a courageous spirit, Avery embodies Cable’s ideal partner in both battle and life.
Conflict Is an Ever-Present Shadow
Is This Cable’s Ultimate Destination in Time?
As anticipated, peace remains elusive for Cable. The inhabitants of Salvation Bay are under siege from the authoritarian regime known as the Prime Conclave, which has established the city as an internment camp for those infected with the virus, refusing to offer any hope of a cure. Avery leads her beleaguered resistance fighters against overwhelming odds, and with Cable joining the fray, they hold the promise of a turning tide. Yet, a treacherous assassin lurks in the shadows, pursuing Cable throughout time and space.
Should Cable manage to navigate this dystopian landscape, he stands on the cusp of discovering not only a permanent home but also the chance at a meaningful contribution toward others in desperate need. In this seemingly fateful turn of events, Cable has the opportunity to unearth a path to a cure for the Techno-Organic Virus, potentially liberating him from a lifelong battle for existence. If he survives, Cable may have indeed found a sanctuary worth his efforts.
