Monster Season 3 marks the third chapter in the acclaimed crime anthology series, created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. The Netflix series launched its inaugural season, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, on September 21, 2022. The second season, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story, is set to premiere on September 19, 2024.

At a promotional event for the upcoming second season held in Los Angeles on September 16, 2024, Ryan Murphy announced that Monster Season 3 will star Charlie Hunnam as Ed Gein. Gein was infamous as a serial killer and grave robber, gaining public attention in the 1950s for his gruesome acts, including crafting household items and clothing from human remains.

Known as the ‘Butcher of Plainfield’, Gein will be the focal point of Monster Season 3, with production scheduled to commence in October 2024. His story has previously inspired fictional serial killers, such as Norman Bates in Psycho, Leatherface in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs.

Charlie Hunnam, an English actor, had a unique entry into the acting world. At just 17, he was scouted by a production manager while shopping with his brother on Christmas Eve in 1997. This encounter led him to audition for a small role in the teen drama series Byker Grove, where he secured the part of Jason Chuckle for a three-episode arc in 1998.

In 2013, Charlie Hunnam was initially cast to portray Christian Grey alongside Dakota Johnson’s Anastasia Steele in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey. However, he withdrew from the project just three weeks before filming began, citing scheduling conflicts with Sons of Anarchy and Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak.

This role ultimately went to Irish actor Jamie Dornan, who portrayed the enigmatic businessman, Christian Grey. The Fifty Shades film series achieved remarkable success, grossing over $1.3 billion worldwide.

Charlie Hunnam openly identifies as a germaphobe and has admitted to disliking kissing and intimate scenes due to his fear of germs.

In an interview with People Magazine in 2017, he shared the origin of his germ phobia:

“When I was maybe eight or nine, there was a parasite from dogs in the north of England that, if you ingested it, could turn you blind. We had a thing in schools to educate the kids about the importance of hygiene, specifically around dogs, because we had a few kids who went blind. That horrified me.”
