Chris Cuomo Compares Black Female Jesus to Obama: Online Backlash and Reactions

In an unexpected outburst, Chris Cuomo, the former CNN anchor, launched into a racially charged tirade against Vice President Kamala Harris on his show, The Chris Cuomo Project. This incident highlighted both his growing animosity towards the Democratic Party and his use of coded phrases aimed at Black leaders.

Similar to Donald Trump, Cuomo then undermined Harris’s credentials in comparison to Obama, remarking: “Obama had much greater attributes than Harris—not only in terms of being a groundbreaking figure but also in his campaigning style, charisma, and persuasive abilities. He possessed qualities that she lacks.”

Cuomo’s criticisms were especially focused on Harris’s route to securing the Democratic nomination, asserting, “Her journey was flawed, as there are significant concerns about her legitimacy. It feels as though she didn’t obtain this position through the right channels; she didn’t even progress to the first stage of primaries when she ran.”

The former host dismissed any concerns regarding critiques of Harris amid the campaign, stating, “The notion that we shouldn’t criticize her because of Trump is flawed. It doesn’t lead to progress. We need to assess comparatively. Both she and he have drawbacks. Does he have more? Certainly. But he also has a far more fervent base. That’s what makes this race so close.”

Cuomo’s demand for critique at this late stage in the race is problematic, as it’s a crucial time for rallying voter support and securing votes. His comparison of Harris and Trump appears disingenuous, especially considering he acknowledges Trump’s issues, while minimizing Harris’s vulnerabilities as relatively minor.

Perhaps the most telling aspect of Cuomo’s remarks was his defensive approach towards Trump supporters while targeting Harris. He remarked, “If you wish to dismiss half this nation as bigots, how do you justify the close race? Perhaps you’re not as infallible in your beliefs as you assume. Maybe you should be more receptive to those who disagree. Not every one of them is a racist.” While it’s true that not all Trump supporters harbor racist sentiments, Cuomo fails to address the pervasive racism and authoritarian tendencies associated with the Trump/Vance campaign.
