Recent additions of classic Call of Duty titles to the Microsoft Store for PC have stirred excitement among fans, particularly regarding the possibility that these popular games might soon be made available on Xbox Game Pass. The acquisition of Activision-Blizzard by Microsoft in 2023 led many players to anticipate a broader range of Call of Duty titles joining the subscription service.

While there has been no official confirmation from either Activision or Microsoft regarding the introduction of older titles to Game Pass, the companies have promptly included the latest release, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, in the service’s lineup. Also, Modern Warfare 3, released earlier this year, became part of Game Pass in July, adding to the anticipation surrounding the franchise.

Classic Titles Make Their Debut on Microsoft Store

On December 9, a series of classic Call of Duty games, including Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2, and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, were mysteriously listed on the Microsoft Store for PC. This update was made without any prior announcements from either Microsoft or Activision, prompting speculation among the gaming community that these titles may soon be relaunched on Xbox Game Pass. Although some fans express cautious optimism, others caution that older titles may possess security vulnerabilities that need to be addressed before they can be made available for the service.

The desire for classic Call of Duty games to join Xbox Game Pass has been a prominent topic since Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision-Blizzard was finalized in October 2023. However, a year later, there remains no official word on any plans to incorporate these beloved shooters into the service. Despite this, Activision has progressively expanded its presence on Game Pass with titles from other franchises like Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and Diablo 4. Alongside Call of Duty, many fans also hope to see other cherished Activision IPs, including the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series, added to Game Pass.

Some speculate that Activision’s hesitation to add older Call of Duty titles to Game Pass may stem from concerns about impacting the player base of the franchise’s latest release. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has reportedly achieved remarkable success for both Activision and Microsoft, setting a record for day-one player engagement, a fact highlighted by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who referred to it as “the biggest Call of Duty release ever.”
