Comparing Minecraft Live 2024 to Previous Live Events: Key Differences

Mojang Studios has officially announced its upcoming annual Minecraft Live event. During this anticipated showcase, the developer will discuss the future of its games and reveal the latest developments. However, this year’s event promises to stand out from previous ones, predominantly due to recent changes in the game’s update cycles and live event formats.

Here’s what to expect regarding future updates in Minecraft.

The 2024 Minecraft Live Event Will Be Unique

Two Minecraft Live Events Planned for More Frequent Updates

Mojang Studios has shared a blog post before the announcement of its upcoming Minecraft Live event, scheduled for September 28, 2024, at 1 PM PDT.

In the post, the developer revealed its decision to divide the annual live event into two parts to accommodate the increasing frequency of game updates. Additionally, Mojang will conduct two events each year to showcase its latest projects and reveal future updates for the beloved sandbox game.

A significant update is the discontinuation of the mob vote competition. Players will no longer vote on one mob from three contenders presented by the game developers.

Instead, the company is working on introducing something entirely new for the upcoming live event. More details will be available soon. The choice to eliminate the mob vote was made after extensive consideration of community feedback, which indicated a general disinterest in the event.

Consequently, the 2024 Live event may be shorter than usual, as Mojang Studios has split it into two segments. While the developer will showcase upcoming features, the updates themselves are expected to be smaller in scale.

Mojang Studios May Reveal Smaller Updates During Minecraft Live

In past live events, Mojang Studios has unveiled substantial updates such as Caves and Cliffs, The Wild, and Trails and Tales. However, this year’s presentation could introduce one or two smaller updates that are set to be rolled out more frequently at the end of 2024 or early 2025.

As indicated, the company may hold another live event in early 2025 to announce additional smaller updates.

What Might Remain Consistent in Minecraft Live

Although this year’s live event will showcase notable differences, Mojang Studios is likely to discuss the next set of smaller updates.

The last significant update was 1.21 Tricky Trials. Going forward, Mojang Studios plans to introduce major features as part of incremental updates, which will be released throughout the year.
