The vibrant world of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy invites players to confront a myriad of challenges throughout its distinct locales. While it’s possible to progress through the game by collecting just a handful of Power Cells from each area, attaining every single one is essential for unlocking the true ending and earning the coveted Platinum Trophy on PS4 and PS5 systems.
Among these areas, the Forbidden Jungle stands out as a compact yet intricately designed environment. Dominated by an ancient Precursor Temple, the landscape is adorned with lush foliage, perilous snakes hanging from the canopy, and treacherous rivers swarming with piranhas, designed to keep players on their toes. Players willing to explore the many dangers will find that collecting every Power Cell and Precursor Orb here significantly enhances their adventure, especially considering the Blue Eco Switch within the temple can unlock new paths elsewhere.
Unlock the Temple Door
This initial challenge is straightforward, as long as you tackle it before disrupting the Lurker Machine and redirecting the Eco Beam back to the village. To claim this Power Cell, approach the Lurker Device and use the pistons at one end for leverage. After jumping up, head towards the Eco Beam and run through it to charge Jak with Blue Eco. A quick dash up the ramp will lead you to the sealed side door of the temple, which opens if you enter with Blue Eco charged, giving you access to the Power Cell.
Should you accidentally break the Lurker Machine beforehand, don’t fret; you can still acquire the Power Cell by utilizing the Blue Eco Vent near the bridge to the Temple Door. Jump back up onto the machine and make your way to the door.
Redirect the Eco Beam
Now that you’ve employed the Eco Beam to your advantage, it’s time to redirect it back towards Sandover Village to assist the Mayor. Start by returning to the top of the Lurker Machine and break the mirrors adjacent to the Eco Beam to adjust its direction toward a tower. Leap down to this tower and trigger the aiming screen by interacting with it, allowing you to line up the beam with the next tower.
Your journey continues back toward the initial section of the Jungle, where your first snake adversary awaited. Navigate past snakes and spike pits to locate the next tower, and repeat the process of aligning the beam towards the subsequent tower.
For the third tower, retrace your steps and utilize the platforms depicted in the previous image to reach the cliff near the temple. It’s a short trek to the third tower, where you can redirect the beam once again.
Continue this pattern until you get to the fourth tower, which lies beyond a rope bridge visible after tower three. Jump over the swinging log trap, and you will finalize the beam connection before returning back to the beach area where you first entered the Forbidden Jungle. Once redirected, simply discuss with the Mayor to collect your Power Cell.
Ascend the Temple
To reach the pinnacle of the temple, begin by charging yourself up at the Blue Eco Vent near the damaged bridge. Approaching the bridge after this will partially mend it, allowing you to leap across to the Temple Door. Quickly enter, as the Blue Eco charge enables you to unlock the door and penetrate deeper into the temple.
Inside, veer left and navigate the Precursor Platforms to ascend the structure, smashing boxes along the way to replenish your Blue Eco. You’ll discover a Blue Eco Vent that can replenish your resources for the next climbing segment. After ascending with the Launchpad and trampoline, leap between the blue eco platforms to reach the temple’s summit, where you will claim your Power Cell. You can then descend via the nearby elevator.
If you’re aiming for the “Jak be Nimble”Trophy, ensure to maintain speed and precision while navigating to the top to prevent running out of Blue Eco.
Locate the Blue Vent Switch
Once inside the Precursor Temple, your next mission is to find the Blue Eco Vent Switch and secure an additional Power Cell. Ascend through the only available route, leaping from platform to platform while avoiding the hazardous vines. Utilize the moving platforms to navigate corners and jump gaps, all the while collecting every Precursor Orb that comes your way.
After turning the corner, another set of floating platforms awaits. Grabbing the Power Cell will also activate the Blue Eco Switch below, restoring eco flow to vents in other locales, such as Sentinel Beach.
Confront the Dark Eco Plant
While you’re deep within the temple, prepare to face the Dark Eco Plant, likely your first significant boss battle. Careful tactics will help you in this encounter. Charge up with Blue Eco from the switch room, then utilize the nearby shortcut to reach the area accessed by the elevator. The Blue Eco charge will open the sealed door and activate a nearby Precursor Orb vent.
Enter through the door to embark on a new platforming challenge filled with flipping conical platforms. Time your jumps meticulously to gather Precursor Orbs and make your way to the Dark Eco Plant.
Boss Encounter: Dark Eco Plant
This monstrous plant will call forth spiky minions to charge you, while lashing out with its own formidable teeth. Staying agile is key; move regularly to avoid its bite, allowing the spikes on enemies to retract before dispatching them with a punch or spin attack. After defeating one wave, the plant will expose its head, enabling you to leap onto leafy platforms to inflict damage. Repeat this process for three rounds to conquer the Dark Eco Plant, leading to the release of a Power Cell. You can jump on its head post-battle to shake loose any lingering Precursor Orbs, repeating as necessary to collect them all.
Utilize the Launchpad and Blue Eco Vent to exit the temple once you’ve gathered everything.
Catch 200 Pounds of Fish
This task can be unexpectedly challenging due to its minigame mechanics that increase in difficulty. Head down to the river in the Forbidden Jungle to find the Fisherman, who will request assistance in catching 200 pounds of desirable fish. You’ll need to catch Green 1-pound fish alongside Yellow 5-pound fish while avoiding the poisonous eels lurking in the water. The Fisherman is adamant: miss a total of 20 pounds, and you’ll lose your opportunity and need to restart.
The key to success here lies in closely observing the top of the screen and mastering the timing of your net’s movement, as the fish and eels swim rapidly. Prioritize catching 1-pound fish over risking a catch of an eel, and if you succeed, you’ll earn a Power Cell and gain access to the Fisherman’s speedboat for further adventures on Misty Island.
Follow the Canyon to the Sea
While exploring by the river, make sure to follow its course downwards to discover where it meets the sea. Swim to a nearby island to claim another Power Cell. Take a moment to dive beneath the water to gather additional Precursor Orbs on either side of the island.
Rescue the Seven Scout Flies
This task is a recurring theme across various zones, requiring players to locate seven Scout Flies scattered throughout the Forbidden Jungle to retrieve the final Power Cell. Begin by turning right at the first fork in the path, spotting the Scout Fly Box at the end of a short platforming route. A Ground Pound will break the box open to free the first Scout Fly.
The second Scout Fly Box lies near the Lurker Machine. After claiming that, drop off the cliff to the left to discover the third Scout Fly Box at the river’s edge where it meets the ocean.
Next, find the fourth Scout Fly Box situated halfway up the temple near the Blue Eco Vent. The fifth Scout Fly can be obtained using a Trampoline located near the Precursor Pillars that lead out after you defeat the Dark Eco Plant.
For the sixth box, enter the temple through the main door and use the trampoline to reach a side area leading back outside. Navigate around to locate the box. Lastly, the final Scout Fly is just outside the temple’s front entrance, next to the river, and encircled by Dark Eco Boxes.
