The Big Bang Theory universe has expanded considerably with the addition of Young Sheldon and the recent launch of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. Although these shows exist within the same fictional universe, they feature only a handful of characters who have crossed over between all three series. The original sitcom, created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady in 2007, underwent several iterations before debuting in a form that ultimately captivated audiences. The initial reception was good, yet it evolved into a cultural phenomenon, leading to the development of spinoffs like Young Sheldon, which firmly established Sheldon as the focal point of the franchise.
As this expansive universe continues to thrive, it has transitioned beyond its initial storyline. Following the emotional conclusion of Young Sheldon, the narrative focus shifted to Georgie Cooper and his nascent family life, a storyline minimally explored in The Big Bang Theory. Despite the creative liberties taken within the franchise’s timeline and character arcs, only four actors have managed to appear across all three shows.
Meemaw
June Squibb & Annie Potts
Meemaw, portrayed by Annie Potts, was first alluded to in The Big Bang Theory through letters found by Penny. Later, in a cameo appearance by June Squibb, Meemaw visited Sheldon following his emotional breakup. Since Young Sheldon concluded, Potts has taken up the role of Meemaw in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, showcasing her interactions with the Cooper family, including a Thanksgiving gathering.
Missy
Courtney Henggeler & Raegan Revord
Missy, Sheldon’s twin sister, brought a refreshing dynamic to the series. While Courtney Henggeler first introduced Missy in Season 1 of The Big Bang Theory, she quickly garnered popularity due to her relatable humor. Unfortunately, it wasn’t until the series’ later seasons that she reappeared during Sheldon and Amy’s nuptials. In contrast, Raegan Revord‘s Missy in Young Sheldon enjoyed more time in the spotlight but often lacked substantive storylines.
Similar to Meemaw, Missy has made her way into Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, adding depth to the Cooper family storyline. After dealing with the emotional complexities following George’s passing, her character is positioned to evolve further as the new show continues.
Georgie
Jerry O’Connell & Montana Jordan
Georgie, portrayed by Montana Jordan and earlier by Jerry O’Connell, was the last member of the Cooper family to feature in The Big Bang Theory. With minimal backstory, his character’s introduction was profound, marking a reunion during his brother’s wedding. Over time, Georgie transformed from Sheldon’s underachieving sibling into a central character alongside Mandy, creating exciting narratives, especially within Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
Mary
Laurie Metcalf & Zoe Perry
Mary, the matriarch of the Cooper family, first appeared in The Big Bang Theory, portrayed by Laurie Metcalf. As the character’s popularity soared, Zoe Perry later stepped into the role in Young Sheldon, offering new dimensions and backstory to Mary’s character. Throughout the prequel, fans witnessed the development of her relationship with George, providing insights absent from the original series.
Mary has also made multiple appearances in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, continuing her legacy and connection to the Cooper family. As the narrative unfolds, audiences can anticipate further engagement with Mary as the show integrates familiar storylines from the franchise.
- Expanding character arcs
