Various skills, passive abilities, and other effects can synergize with CC, often enhancing damage output by leveraging these statuses. Below is an overview of the primary Crowd Control effects available in the game.

Stun and Heavy Stun Mechanics

In Path of Exile 2, a standard Stun effect temporarily interrupts a target’s actions. While this disruption only lasts briefly, multiple stuns in rapid succession can quickly lead to a target’s demise, including that of the player character. Stun chances are influenced by the attacker’s accuracy rating on physical hits.

On the other hand, Heavy Stun completely incapacitates a target for a longer duration. This status is triggered once the Heavy Stun Meter (indicated by a bar beneath the target’s health) reaches its limit. After recovering from Heavy Stun, a target experiences reduced Stun Buildup for a short period. Notable skills that leverage Heavy Stun include the Seismic Cry Mace Skill and the Surprising Strength Titan passive.

Pin and Knockback Effects

The Pinned status effectively freezes a target in place, preventing them from moving but still allowing them to attack. While not as potent as some other CC effects, this ability is beneficial for builds that utilize skills requiring delayed action, prolonged casting times, or damage over time.

Conversely, Knockback mechanics create space between the caster and their target. While fewer skills utilize this effect, it can be critical when navigating encounters with foes that rely on area-based attacks.

Freezing Mechanics

Inflicting Cold damage can Freeze opponents, significantly hindering their actions. As a target approaches total Freeze—or 100% Freeze buildup—their health bar will reflect an icon indicating this status. Frozen enemies cannot take actions and become vulnerable to attack from several synergistic skills, such as Cold Snap from the Elemental tree or Fragmentation Rounds from the Crossbow tree in Mercenary builds, both of which benefit from the Frozen state to deal area damage.

Electrocute: An Effective Control Method

Electrocute refers to a CC effect caused by specific skills or Support Gems, functioning similarly to Stun. This effect can interrupt actions and immobilize enemies for five seconds. Typically triggered by Lightning damage, it often coincides with a Shock effect, which increases damage taken by affected targets by 20%. Given the prevalence of Ailments in PoE 2, a dual Lightning ailment build for Monks or Sorceresses can be particularly effective against challenging bosses.

It’s important to note that, unlike Stun, Electrocute can only manifest through skills or Support Gems specifically designed to create it. Assess whether incorporating Electrocute into your build is worth utilizing some of your precious gem slots.

Some monsters possess unique CC effects that players cannot replicate. A prime example is the Drowning effect produced by water globes from River Hags, which can severely impair vision and movement, leading to automatic death if prolonged for two seconds.

Additionally, monsters dealing elemental damage can impose either Freeze or Electrocute, including any lingering effects they leave behind. Stun is a constant threat for melee players, as all enemy units can potentially stunlock them until their demise.
